Fortunately bright sunny days plus the reflection of the snow lightened the inside enough to keep classes running, normally. Lifeboats, canoes, and many helping hands were needed to rescue stranded people during the flood. 27

Graduation a beginning and an end Size 7, weight 104 .. . size 7i « . . Cap and gown measurements began very early in the spring and became the first step to senioritis that climaxed with graduation. The first scheduling for caps and gowns was, like everything else, snowed out, but finally then did come in, complete with the new paper caps designed so that the seniors could keep them. The annual Senior Banquet was a tremendous success, as it was all by candlelight and the food was catered in by Halls ' . Towards the end of May, the teachers and underclassmen could see a change in their upperclassmen ' s behavior. On the whole they were louder, touchier, more excitable and a lot rowdier than ever before; senioritis was certainly taking its toll. On Wednesday, May 31, the day before graduation, and the last day of school, feelings were running high, in a mixture of freedom, sadness, relief and celebration. That night was Senior Recognition Night, where scholarship, musical, art, and other departmental and special awards were given. Also. the tradition of the Nelson Awards was in keeping as Kevin Erwin with his multivoice served as a Master of Ceremonies. Graduation finally came, and with it the parties and gaiety, but also the ceremony. Teachers and students were adorned with the historical gowns and arrived at the Coliseum at 6:45. By 8:45 it was over, and the seniors had now closed one door, but opened another. 29
