Sagging ceilings forced Snider personnel to shovel off the roof of Snider to avoid further damage. Trudge, trudge, trudge, walking or snowmobil- ing was the only way to get anywhere for days after the blizzard. After the storm, cars were buried window deep and more in drifts. Digging out was a major undertaking, and pathways were shoveled only as wide as necessary. h 16

Did Someone Say SNOW? Gusting winds and inches upon inches of snow, made up the Blizzard of 78, which raged for over 24 hours. The entire state of Indiana was immobilized to the point that the National Guard was called in. Never before in the history of Indiana had there been such a storm. For those at Snider, it meant six consecu- tive days off from school. Snider was also one of the two Fort Wayne schools that had roof cave-ins, as the Home Ec area was out of use for several weeks. In general, everything was chaos, but as they say, Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! ABOVE: Plows piled snow several feet tall along all the roads near Snider. All snowmobiles were called for rescue trips to grocery stores for bread and milk for stranded people. Snider was hard hit by the blizzard, causing problems in clearing the parking lot and outside entrances. W km . Jt T iiuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiPUM uiiipiJBB 17
