Beginning on Friday, February 18, 1977, and ending the following day, twelve students donated their time and energy to endure the first annual Snider volleyball marathon in Snider ' s gymnasium. Starting at 3:00 p.m. the marathon continued non-stop, during which time the players were accompanied in shifts by Coach Tom Swihart, Mr. Doug Williams, Mr. Jerry Petrie, Mr. Mike Hawley, Mr. Mark Clough, Mr. Dennis McClurg, and Ms. Jane Carber. Although the total time of thirty-one hours, two minutes and thirty seconds was believed to be a new world record, Bruce Piekarski, was later informed by the GUINESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS that a time of thirty-three hours had previously been documented. All was not in vain however, since over nine hundred dollars in pledges was collected for the Allen County Society for Crippled Children and Adults. 20
