A spirit of drive and determination brought the pioneers to Fort Wayne and enabled them to establish a thriving city. The Panthers have developed this same spirit and utilize it to create Snider ' s identity. Anthony Wayne was commanded to secure the Fort Wayne area with its lucrative fur trade for the United States. He was successful, and in 1794 he built Fort Wayne. During the War of 1812 the fort withstood a month-long siege. Later the fort expanded and grew into the city we know today. The pioneers were forced to fight for their possessions. They had given up the security of the East in order to meet the challenge of the West. They faced In- dian battles and a wilderness. They met the challenges and created a growing and prosperous city. The Panthers face battles too. They must fight to perserve their identity and high standards in a wilderness of apathy. Snider was the first of the new schools. Panthers were forced to carve their identity before the critical eyes of the older schools. They have met these challenges and have therefore been able to perserve Snider ' s unique personality.
