Independence Week becomes a reality ami Independence Week was a week of free-form education sponsored by the Student Council. It took place during the first week of the second semester, January 26-30. Many hours of planning and preparation preceded this Student Council project. Students formulated ideas during the summer; before school ever started, a great deal of prepara- tion was already completed. When school began in the fall, the committee members presented their plans to the faculty and administra- tion. Although there were some who disliked the idea, the majority were enthusiastic enough to agree to cooperate. The teachers were then asked to plan the classes they were to teach or sponsor. Some students taught classes in the areas of their experience; in other classes, guest speakers were in- vited to talk. Finally, the long planned for and awaited for week arrived. Students were allowed the opportunity to learn about their personal interest areas. There were many reactions to Independence Week. Although some aspects could have been improved, basically it was a well-planned and profitable week. Spotlight-19
