Witches come alive in The Crucible Reinacting history was the main theme behind the 1971 Senior Class Play, The Crucible. The excitement of actually do- ing a play that happened, showing the feel- ings and emotions that have been buried for over 300 years, was only part of the chal- lenge the cast members had to meet. The Crucible , different from the previ- ous senior plays, was a deep emotional drama based on the witch trials near Boston in the 1640 ' s. The play met with great con- troversy from the school and audience as being hard to understand and imagine. But each member of the cast and those who attended has received a brief feeling of fear and doubt, dug from the past Salem wit- ches, burned and buried.
