DOUG CROW-Senior Back Baird tallies six against Carter. CARTER'S VICTORY SHADES PANTHERS' HOPES Paschal's chances at getting an early lead in the conference race were shattered when Carter defeated the Panthers 35-14. The Eagles took the lead, making three straight touchdowns before Paul Gauntt passed to end Gary McLeod for PaschaI's first touchdown. After the half-time ceremonies the Panthers seemed to come alive with a sixty-yard gallop by Chris Mitetq, making the score 21-14. The Panthers' hopes faded out when an incom- plete pass was thrown, and the ball was given to Carter. Carter then took charge of the game, making two more touchdowns and giving the River- siders a 35-14 victory over the Panthers. PASCHAL A FOOTBALL TEAM TRI-CAPTAINS-Left to right, Chris Miteff, Arthur Baird, Dickie Chubb The Paschal Panthers had a very successful season in competition with some of the state's leading contenders and a 4-A3 conference which yielded top-notch boys for the college ranks. After a fairly satisfactory non-confer- ence schedule was completed, the Panthers were disappointed by an early loss to Carter Riverside, But plucking the four following tough teams, the Panthers returned to the top of the district as co-champions with Arlington Heights. On a cold, rainy night the Panthers met Sunset of Dallas in the bi-district game, and lost T6 to 7. As one looks back, he realizes that the first Panther eleven from the new school was a carryover of the unconquer- able spirit displayed in all Paschal activities. After a very sluggish T4-O first halt, the Panthers, led by Bubba Gauntt, played sensationally the third and fourth quarters. Gauntt started the second halt with a 36-yard touchdown run. On the same play a few minutes later he was tackled but pitched out to Arthur Baird for another tally. Chris Mitett's interception set up the last score, which was made by Richard Loughridge from the T3-yard line. Baird led in scoring with two of Paschal's six touchdowns.
