The 1948 Panther has tried to capture these prec- ious moments through song because there is a special bar of music connected with the recollection of each event, whether it be a football game or a hayride or of dance or a certain flame. We, the Staff, sincerely hope that in later years, when each one is reminiscent, this annual may help him to recapture the highlights of his high school days. lOANNE STARNES MARGARET SINDT The Editors STAFF BETTY BROWN BILL MCCRIMMON MARIANNE MORRIS NANCY POSTON ANN RANDOLPH BETTY ANN ROWLAND O. Other officers were Margaret Welch, vice-president, and Charlotte Bromagem, secretary. In November, Penta, in co-operation with the Home Economics Department, presented a variety show for the school in addition to the regular programs related to math which were featured at each club meeting. In 1946 and 1947, it won first place in the Texas High School Press Association at the convention in Denton, Texas. The first Pantherette, sponsored by Miss Agnes Edens, was published without the aid oi a iournalism class. This came two years later, when Mrs. Minnie E. Tipton came to Paschal. This fall the band started the practice of forming a double line at the end of the half through which the football boys returned to the field. Included in their plans for the year are assembly programs, a spring band concert, en- trance in the state contests in Denton. and the city-wide band festival in March. In the spring another concert is given in our school auditorium. and the Orchestra takes part in The All-City High School Concert. HONOR SYSTEM During the fall of 1940, a group of students gathered in the principal's office to discuss a new plan for governing the school. The course was outlined: then suggestions flew. Pupils immediately saw the value of such a form of government, and it was they themselves who pro- moted it. Their first step was to develop a program of courtesy, thereby eliminating antagonism in the school. A Student Assembly was formed that was respons- ible for the adoption of the four standards of this system: Cour- tesy, Loyalty, Scholarship, and Cooperation. Smiles, sympathy, politeness, and consideration of the aver- age Paschalite are symbolic of this first standard. The second, a trait essential to a happy life, is a vital element in this system: for loyalty is found through sin- cerity, enthusiasm, and love for one's school. Three elements which make up Scholarship are attendance, preparedness, and promptness. To obtain knowledge one must learn day by day, be attentive in class, and be present. The results are a good chance for awards and a valuable educa- tion. The last standard is Coopera- tion-the basis for student par- ticipaiion. This participation de- velops Self-Responsibility, Pu- pil-Obligation, and Self-Discip- line: three things necessary in building a mature and mentally balanced adult. , . r , , , . . , .
