HEAIIIIUARTERS RUTII SUMMER CAMP FURT lEE, VIRGINIA 5 August 1955 TO: All' Cadets Completing the 1955 Quartermaster ROTC Summer Camp U l would like to take this means of congratulating each of you individually for complet- ing the rigid training of Summer Camp and for displaying excellent spirit and morale through- out. Your enthusiasm and esprit have contributed materially to the success of this encampment. ' As logistics officers, it will be your job to support the combat leader and to render him more effective in every conceivable way. As such, we, as logistics officers, are likened to those unsung heroes, The Seven Mules of the famous Notre Dame football team of yesteryear. Most sports fans to this day can tell you the names of the famous Four Horsemen of Notre Dame, but none know very much about The Seven Mules, without whom The Four Horsemen would probably not have existed. A ' As logistics officers of our Army, it will be your duty to deliver logistic support in the right quantity, to the right place at the right time-and you will have to do all this-before the customer knows what logistic support he requires. imagination and foresight are indispen- sable tools of logistics officers. l urge you to develop these faculties and to project your thoughts ahead at all times. lt is our job as logistics officers to do all the logistics planning and thinking for the combat leaders. As you go forth to receive your commission or to complete your senior year at college and ultimately to receive your commission, the best wishes of all the present officers in the Army go with you. Sincerely yours, MERTON SINGER Colonel, OMC Deputy Camp Commander
