GIIARTERMASTER TRAINING GGMMANII OFFICE GF THE GGMMANIIING GENERAL FORT LEE, VIRGINIA T0 ALL MEMBERS OF THE QUARTERMASTER ROTC SUMMER CAMP The history of America is rich in the tradition of the civilian soldier entering into the Armed Forces during times of conflict to defend his country and, on occasion, to give his life in this cause. Only through the prompt and efficient service of such civilian soldiers have the military successes of America been possible. You, the students and ROTC Cadets of today, are to be among the leaders of the armies of tomorrow. On your shoulders will rest the security and successes of our nation. It is truly every American's hope that it will never be necessary for you to leave your civilian life and enter active service as a leader in combat. However, it is nevertheless incumbent upon each and every one of you to be prepared to face such a call to duty if the need arises. To be trained and prepared is the key to success in providing for the future require- ments of American military endeavors. By your voluntary participation in the advanced ROTC program and your attendance at the 1955 Quartermaster ROTC Summer Camp, you have clearly demonstrated that you recognize your responsibility as an American citizen and patriot. Through the training you have received as a Cadet at your academic institution and while in training at Fort Lee, you have been prepared to assume, if necessary, the role of a military leader. ' Many of you, through your ability, initiative, and interest will be honored with com- missions as officers in the Regular Army. To you, as well as to your fellow Cadets commissioned as officers in the Army Reserve, the training you have received during the summer encampment will be of paramount importance. The responsibility to assist in leading the America of the future is yours. The respon- sibility is great, and our continued progress, personal liberty, and national security will in large measure depend upon your leadership and guidance.
