Acting skills Serious play chosen for UIL The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds was chosen as the one-act play to be per- formed at J. J. Pearce for UIL competition on March 22 by the drama depart- ment. A lot of people go to the theater to be entertained, and this play is pretty dev- astating. lt deals with the family and their life, and in general there's nothing to hope for in their life, said drama instructor Karen Gos- sett. She continued to say that the play relies strictly on the acting skills rather than a flamboyant set or costumes. The play is about Tilly fMelanie Ciarrisonj who is the hope of the play. Tilly's sister is Ruth Uessica Mor- risj who is diagnosed as be- ing almost insane. Their mother is Beatrice fSherry Tackettj and she must keep old people in her home to support her family. Nanny fHeather Lidsterl is one of the old persons Beatrice takes care of. Janice Dick- ery fShannan Swansonj is Tilly's competition in the school science fair.
