Sophomores Travis Barlow and Kathy Moore enjoy a slow dance at an October sock hop. F . Llninhibited dancing New sounds When you hear the words sock hop, you automatically think of loud music, people do- ing outrageously wild dances, and shoes lying around in the gym foyer - lots of shoes. A new tradition was started for proof of payment at sock hops. After walking in the foyer door and paying the S2 cover charge, instead of last year's usual stamp on the back side of the hand, students were greet- ed with a, No, we don't do it there anymore and got stamped on the inner wrist. The Carrollton Police Depart- ment came to the sock hops to at sock hops ensure that campus rules were being followed. School Re- source Officer James Shields was there also. The Senior Executive Com- mittee acquired new sound equipment with which to play better music. Senior Executive Committee member Susannah Webb commented, People complained about the music, but there's no way we can please everyone. No matter what kind of mu- sic was played, there seemed to be people dancing everywhere you turned. Earsplitting comes to mind when remembering pep rallies - students screaming various chants at the top of their lungs, such as seniors, seniors or juniors, jun- iors!! At one pep rally, head foot- ball coach Charlie Lyles said, lt's not seniors, juniors, sophomores, or freshmen, it's L I O N S! Pep rallies are important spirit raisers for both the teams and the students, commented senior Susannah Webb. Pep rallies, which were held in the boys' gym after school, drew students who had pride in their school and the ac- Screaming Chants Rallies Generate Spirit tivities displayed by the teams, winning or losing. Some of the events nor- mally found at the pep rallies were the drum cadence, Lionette routines, familiar tunes played by the band, skits poking fun at the week- ly opponent, and the spirit competition. The spirit com- petition seemed to be a fa- vorite with the students this year, especially the fresh- men, considering all 666 of them could out-scream any of the upperclassmen.
