With the 8:20 bell, the silence of the vacant halls is shattered as students pour into the building. The rush is on! Slamming lockers, hurried conver- sations, and shuffling books precede the quieting hush of the 8:50 bell. The drone of lecture, the syn- copated taps from the typewriters and the buzz of sewing machines is interrupted for twenty minutes on the surmise that one can stand in line, purchase a lunch disk, stand in line, redeem the disk for a tray, and finish the lunch in the remaining eight minutes. Another bell and back to class. Eventually that long anticipated 5:55 bell sounds. Amid the scramble to cars and jostling for bus seats, students leave for home. As quickly as Tom entered and exited, laughter filled the auditorium of DeXX'itt Perry Jr. High School as the senior play Lock, Stock, and Lipstick swung into its first debut, Jan. 23, Yes, good old Maggs fPam jonesj and Plunkett Uoe Allenj were certainly a pair of nosey rosies and match makers. Unfortunately, the match making turned on them and they became matched. Mrs. Maggs turned the tables for Warren, who hated women, when she broke him down and made him look at girl counselor, Jane Gardner QPam I-Iolterj. Miss Prather fPat Baileyj, the typical old battleaxe math teacher, broke down when she admitted she wanted her students to like her. The play was a hilarious hit and was enjoyed by all. Providing practical knowledge in the vocation of agriculture is the main aim of the Future Farmers of America. This is accomplished through field trips and helping on local farms and dairies. Also, every year, a project is required of each boy. These projects generally cover raising an animal or certain crop. Another phase of this important organization concerns the yearly meet- ings. These include an annual banquet, regional conferences, and local group meetings. STUDE T TRAI ED FOR GRICULTUR L PURSUIT 36 ' I . r if-f f A f H ff, wa? The first half was one of frustration for the Lions as they were soundly outplayed by the fired-up Broncos who managed but two first downs and 35 yards total offense, and Denton led 14-O at intermission. The second half saw a spirited comeback by the Lions, Their first threat was killed by a fumble in the third quarter. Later, however, Sen- ior tailback, Fred Clements, put the Lions on the scoreboard with a 2 yd. plunge after an exchange of punts. Dave Simpson carried for the two point conversion. Late in the same quarter another Lion fumble proved to be their final downfall as the stingy Denton team retained possession of the ball throughout the fourth quarter, giving the Lions little chance to score. i1sasm:a:f. was mm ,Wwwms Vx, .. . gi ,,., li 'lf AAA, e Baker Montgomery-Qzzizffezb 1 is LIONS SMASH WOODROW WILSON The RLT Lions ripped the WW Wildcats 17- 7 in perhaps the sweetest victory the Lions have had in years. The Lions scored quickly on the AAAA WILDCATS. A WW back tried to field a quick- kick by Pinky Clements, but fumbled, due mainly to hard pursuit by Kirk Thompson. Thompson re- covered on WW's 25. Five plays later, Montgom- ery scored from the one. WW scored on an 84 yd. run during the second quarter and led 7-6 at the half. The Lions, however, were determined. They took the second half kick and promptly marched 69 yards in 12 plays for this score. Clements scored David Wells-Curmf1'f1mn N from the one, and Thompson added the two con- version points. In desperation the Wildcats then took to the air. Tommy Hill intercepted a pass deep in Lion territory and returned it to the Woodrow 30. The Lion drive stalled on the 15, so Clements was called upon to kick a field goal. It was good, and the Li- ons won, I7-7. It was fr fine victory, as the Lions bested the Wildcats in all departments. Had it not been for White's 84 yard run, Woodrow would have been held to only 37 yards rushing. The Lions proved, once again, that determination and sacrifice can work wonders. y , f.f.+,,vr Mmfa . Grady Spruce in the 1963 Homecoming game. There were two bright spots for the Lions: Chrisman's 67 yard touch- down run late in the first period and Mike Conn's blocking of an Apache punt, thereby giving the Lions possession on the Spruce one. Montgomery scored, and Clements added two to win the Lion's first district game, 14-7. T. J. GARRISON Center --Q Y 'I -ei t DUSTY MONTFORT LIONS OUT-RU BREWER 38-O The game was exactly one minute and 19 seconds old when Ken Chrisman romped 60 yards from scrimmage for the Lion's first score. Pinky Clements' conversion made the score 7-O. Only 48 seconds later, quarterback Baker Montgomery connected with Pinky Cle- ments, who scampered 76 yards behind the key blocking of Mike Clements. Clements again kicked the point after touchdown. In the second quarter, Chrisman and Clements struck again, with touch- down runs of 66 and 1 yards, respectively, and the Lions led 26-0 at the half. The pair were still not satisfied, however, so each added an additional six-pointer in the third quarter. Chrisman scored on a 70 yard punt return, and Clements, on another pass from Montgomery, this time for 35 yards. Leading the Lion defense were Danny Town- send and T. J. Garrison. D. Bell of Hurst. The Raiders, preseason favorites to walk away with district honors, had come upon hard times, losing three games prior to the tilt with the Lions. But on their Homecoming night they were not to be denied. The first half was a battle of defenses with neither team gaining an appreciable edge until a fumbled punt gave Bell possession in- side the Lion 20. In short order, Bell had a 6 point lead which they carried to the dressing room at the half. To begin the second half, the Raiders put together the game's only sustained drive and scored midway through the third period. After this, the Lion defense tightened up again and allowed no more. By this time it was too late however. Defensive standouts for the Lions were Fred Clements, Senior tailback-linebacker, Kirk Thompson, Senior end, and Ronnie Salmon, junior end. The first quarter ended in deadlock, but the Fort XX'orth Lions came to life to domi- nate the second quarter. During the second period, Castleberry scored three times and added the conversion after two scores, for a total of twenty points. The second half however, proved to be quite a contest. On the first play, half-back Pinky Clements took the ball from Montgomery and promptly scampered 66 yards for Carrollton's first tally. Kenny Chrisman also scored in the third quarter, hitting pay dirt after a three-yard plunge. Then the Turner Lions really came to life, mov- ing the ball through several sustained drives. Anticipation and excitement of the final year turned into nostalgic thoughts as we par- ticipated for the last time in the activities that had been the essence of our high school career. Reminiscent, but with the promises of the future, we broke ties with Carrollton as the coveted diplomas were accepted. 1oRs S p X Q1 SENIOR OFFICERS, Dusty Montfort, Prexidenlg Gary Horton, Vice Preridwzlg and Maureen Brown, Swrelar-1 SENIOR EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: Rusty Wire, john Edd Tucker, Pam Jones, Beaver Bronaugh, Dusty Montfort, Maureen Brown, Pinky Clements, Becky Gonzalez, Mike Clements, and jan Mayberry, Not shown is Lynda Tate and Gary Horton 153 'W' l Q l SANDRA ADAMS Student Council 60-613 TJ. When there were chairs to be moved or bleech- ers to be pulled, they were called on to help. These duties were executed with good nature. The sophomores boasted a few members of the select choir, Student Council, varsity team players, and a couple of winning ribbons at the science fair.
