Mr. James Anderson, B.A., M.A. Advanced Place- Miss Lillian Trimble Rhodes, B.A., M.A. Students Mrs. Marjorie Stephenson, B.A. Mrs. Stephenson ment teaching is nothing new to Mr. Anderson of Miss Rhodes, senior English teacher, find that ably serves as Dean of Girls and as a sophomore as he helped develop a similar course. Next to her class is one made interesting by her lectures English teacher. In addition, she is in charge of English, he enjoys music and refinishing furniture. on modern-day happenings and her ability to the Nurse’s Room. suggest good reading in varied areas. Mrs. Julia Ebert, B.A. Teaching high school students English is not unlike climbing Mt. Everest, but Mrs. Ebert always meets this chal- lenge and wins her students with a thorough explanation and a smile. Mrs. Cecile Harriman, B.A., M.A. After a day of teaching junior English, Mrs. Harriman, a member of a teacher’s sorority, the A.D.K., likes to go home to her family and a bridge game. Miss Martha McBrayer, B.A. Pointing out the correct form for writing, along with teaching grammar and literature for sophomore and junior English, Miss McBrayer sponsors the N.F.L. and enjoys golfing. Miss Elizabeth Kapp, B.A. Calling attention to home- work assignments is one of Miss Kapp’s duties as junior English and accelerated junior English teacher. Second period finds her in the office contacting absentees. Pete WHISPERS Mrs. Janice Owings, B.A., M.A. Besides supervising the ever-busy journalism students in their work on the Black and Gold and the Pine Whispers, Mrs Owings teaches sophomore English, including the accelerated group.

English Department Mrs. Jewell Collier, B.A. This typical scene of Mrs. Collier and a sopho- more literature book tells a story of its own. Mrs. Collier also teaches French and sponsors the Red Cross. Miss Hazel Stephenson, B.A., M.A. As head of the department and as a senior English teacher, Miss Stephenson sees that Reynolds students are well prepared for college English. Miss Lucille Edwards, B.A. With energy and enthusiasm, Miss Edwards clearly traces the various trends in English Literature for a senior English class. Mrs. Mae Thornton, B.A., M.A. Mrs. Thornton, teacher of junior English, encourages the use of imagination in doing book covers. Here, she points to some for parallel. Mrs. Martha Mitchell, B.A. Mrs. Mitchell, pointing to the Rorschach ink blot test, teaches English and psychology, and runs the language lab. She enjoys gardening, reading, and bridge. rie Mrs. Evelyn Garrison, B.A., M.E. Aside from teaching English and Public Speaking, Mrs. Garrison sponsors the Debate Club and spends many long hours coaching the Debate Team for statewide debates. 20

saan” ESP ABA GE Mrs. Annie Preston Fearrington, B.A., M.A. Mrs. Fearrington, sponsor of the French National Honor Society and of the Sophomore class, holds a favorite keepsake, a china sabot made in Quimper. Mrs. Elsa Hampton, B.A. Whether teaching or sponsoring the Spanish Club, Mrs. Hampton, a native of Cuba, is always willing to lend a helping hand to her students. Mrs. Margaret McDermott, B.M., M.A. Mrs. McDermott points to Rome from whence the Latin language, which she teaches, originated. She sponsors the Senior class and had the honor of teaching at the Governor’s School last summer. Miss Julia Summerall, B.A. Miss Summerall, an energetic Latin and Spanish teacher, discusses, after visiting Chile last summer, the geography and the colorful history of the people. Miss Mary Martin, B.A. During her recent visit to Rome, Miss Martin purchased many souvenirs like the pictures displayed above. She teaches Latin and is co-sponsor of the National Honor Society. Mrs. Eiieen Hepler, B.A. Frau Hepler, as she is called by her students, enriches her classes with audio-visual aids and discussion of her summers in Germany.
