VALEDICTORY High school days ended yesterday for us. But that doesn ' t mean the end of a life ' s education. Some will be going on to University in the fall, others to technical schools and apprenticeships, and still others will go directly into jobs, which help our society function - whether clerks, typists or miners. In any case education never really ceases. In fact, education begins to encompass a whole new meaning. No longer does memorizing whole chapters from books become education, but education begins to include loving your neighbour and finding out that the only true friend is one who is there when you need him. As the demand for more highly trained people to hold down what has been termed as good Jobs grows, so will the need for university education. But don ' t forget, you have to live not only with your¬ self, but others as well. That ' s why the need for the other type of education grows. Well, Grads, make the most of it. Don’t forget your school days in the R.D. Parker Collegiate. Remember the lessons in getting along with others you learned while on the sports court or in class, or at a school activity. They ' ll mean a lot some day. Life in School has shaped your lives a lot. So have our teachers. In paying tribute to the staff I would like to quote John Ruskin in saying: Truth in the book is crippled; truth in the intellectual system is a skeleton; but truth in personality is life and power. The genius of teaching is truth and personality. Truth is the arrow, but personality is the bow that drives it home. But although much of our lives have centered around the school, there is one other focal point, more important to many - and that is our homes. On behalf of the Grads, I would like to thank our parents who have shown true concern for us. Parents who have realized our potentiality as people and who have encouraged it. Parents who have tried to instill in us responsibility and faith in ourselves. To you we owe much of our character and goals. Finally, back to the Grads. Tonight is the last night we ' ll all be together. By September, we ' ll all be going in different paths - to use a slang expression - doing our thing. I really hope your thing is worthwhile and will give you the sense of accomplishment all people must feel, so that no load becomes too heavy. So, farewell Grads, make the most of it. - Beverly Sawicki Graduating Class of ' 70. The photograph on the previous page was taken by Mr. Ernie Sawatsky. Due to the lack of concern of some members of the Camera Club, no Grad pictures were available.
