A true feeling of rapore was established between both factions of the Union by Mr. Beckenstein and the result was closer communication and cooperation between these fac- tions. Led by Chairman Fred Palmer, Young Ameri- cans For Freedom President, Tom Hickey, and Liberal Party leader, Bruce Sweeney, both parties showed con- siderable growth. Highlight of the year was the annual Connecticut Intercollegiate Student Legislative gathering at the Capitol in Hartford. 24 members of the Union repre- sented the college at this mock legislature. Led by Palmer in the House, and Craig Smith and Hickey in the Senate, our delegation won the respect and con- fidence of the other 16 colleges in attendance by hav- ing both bills passed in their respective houses. Guest speakers, debates on current issues, and news- letters issued by both parties were other activities un- dertaken.
