The County Board of Gadsden County is elected by the people, from a popular vote, to serve four years. There are five members, one from each district. Serving with them are the County Superintendent and the County Attorney. As stated in their handbook, the Board is established by law to determine the best policies for the school program of the county and to see that these policies are properly carried out so that the system of schools may be adequate and efficient. The Board at all times is willing to listen to any- one who wishes to be heard, and it seeks to show the entire public that all decisions are for the best interest of the schools. The County Educational Staff works under the direct supervision of the Superintendent and Board in coopera- tion with the principals and teachers. The purpose of the Staff is to assist in the continuous development of an organized program which will bring about the improvement of educational opportunities for children and youth. The Board and Staff are truly the backbone of our school. Our Dixie hearts pour out thanks to them. HE IS THE VETO POWER OF Q.H.S MR. JAMES A. SHANKS, Supervising Principal: B.A., Arkansas College; B.S., M.S., Peabody College; Graduate Work, University of Florida. Anyone who has attended Quincy High in the last thirty-eight years will remem- ber Mr. Shanks. His devotion to Q.H.S. is easily recalled in the hearts of every- one. In any and every problem of a student Mr. Shanks takes a vital interest. Many young students don't appreciate this interest at first, but later on they see that it is really for their own good. In the minds of the students, their principal is thanked for his faithfulness, his help- ing hand and his assembly talks that last through fifth period. Yes, Mr. Shanks is truly a Southern gentleman! Even during Mr. Shanks' informal moments in the drug store he is talking to a student. Mr. Shanks holds a powwow with some juniors and seniors. 7
