Class History ln 1938 twenty-five little first graders, full of wonder, amazement and excitement were greeted for the first time by their teacher, Miss Margaret Reed. Their twenty-five puz- zled faces belonged to Jeffrey Allinger, Raymond Ball, Tom Basore, Holmes Bell, Cleon Burton, Carl Clay, Glenn Frazier, Bill Freese, Richard Frye, Robert Heath, Lewis Newman, Jr., Dan Purkepile, Don Smith, Lloyd Thompson, Buddy Whitman, Paul Zell, Marcella Bowers, Frances Freese, Mary Hughes, Roberta Rowley, Mable Shoffner, Bessie Brown, Janet Sheffer, Kathyran Gates and Phyllis Allen. We were all very brilliant so Miss Reed passed us on to the second grade. Someone misplaced our second grade record book but during this time we lost Glenn Frazier, Bill Freese, Bob Heath, Lewis Newman, Jr , Don Smith, Buddy Whitman, Paul Zell, Frances Freese, Mary Hughes, Mable Shoffner, Janet Sheffer, Kathyran Gates and Phyllis Allen. We gained Tom Winks but soon lost him. We journeyed on into the third grade with Miss Becktell as our teacher. We lost Richard Frye but gained Bob Barthaurer, Ralph Hubble, Jack Linaberry and Ruth Allen. Miss Becktell seemed to like us, so she passed us to the fourth grade and again tried to drill us in our studies. We gained Lois Baker and lost Ralph Hubble, Jack Linaberry, Lloyd Thompson and Tom Basore. Barbara Robbins was with us for only a short time. We were then promoted mw the fifth grade and into Mrs. Hickman's hands. We gained Damion Spicer, Carl McGuire, Wayne Dorsey, Donna Midlam and Jean Mitchell. Mrs. Hickman passed us on into the sixth grade where we lost Carl McGuire and gained Phyllis Allen and Clyde Watkins. While in the sixth grade Mrs. Hickman tried exceeding- ly hard to prepare us for Jr. High. We were almost as excited upon entering the seventh grade as we had been in the first grade. We gained Richard Smith and lost Jean Mitchell, Raymond Ball, Bob Barthauer, Cleon Burton and Phyllis Allen. Richard Smith left at the end of the year. We then went on into the eighth grade where we gained Clara Mae Smith, Lloyd Thompson and lost no one. Finally we made the ninth grade where we lost Clara Mae Smith and gained Bob Montgomery. We went on into the tenth grade where Marcella Bowers became Mrs. Edwin Corwin and Ruth Allen moved to Sidney. Irene Ashburn moved into our class from Spartinburg, Indiana and Janet Coverstone was with us for the first few weeks of school. Bob Heath returned again from Rosewood. While in the Junior Class, Dan Purke left us for a four months stay in the army and Thad Carr joined us from Lewistown. This was a very busy year for all of us, raising money for the reception. Our play, Hobgoblin House proved to be quite a success. Finallyiwe became dignified Seniors. Everyone was excited, ordering pictures, an- nouncements and caps and gowns. We gave a play called Bolts And Nuts which aided us toward our goal ---- a Senior trip. The following teachers have helped us reach our goal in high school: Mr. Cameron, Mr. Latta, Mr. Allen, Mr. Lewis, Mr. Lantz, Mr. Sanders, Mr. Hurley, Mr. Elsom, Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. McCoy, Miss Winget, Mrs. Sampselle, Miss Dutton, Miss Sterz, Mrs. Si nmons, Mr. Dean and Mrs. Pitts. ll

Prophecy of Class of '50 The other night I sat down in my easy chair, leaned back and began to read my news- paper, The World Times, 1960. The startling headlines ---- Holmes Bell appointed Chief Justice to the Supreme Court ---- nearly knocked me out of the chair. Just think! His career originated when he became Chief Judge of Quincy Local. As I read on, I found that his first big case was concerned with the overloading of a plane by one of his former classmates, Bessie Brown, who now is a record-breaking aviatrix. She was arrested by State Highway Patrolman Damion Spicer, who observed the plane skimming the telephone wires. The plane was bulging with soldiers. Bessie's still hoarding soldiers, but Judge Bell said she'd just have to make a choice. Boy! Is she in a predicament! In the Hottsy-Tottsy society column I noticed that Donna Midlam had given a party at her mansion announcing her engagement to Daniel Purke, a fabulous millionaire and owner of the mckv-Sticky Wave -oet Company. I wonder which one has the Licky-Sticky wave, Donna or Danny? In the agricultural section, I read that Bob Heath, local veterinary, was called to the Thompson Purebred Angus Farm for one of Lloyd's prize steers. It seems that Mrs. Thompson, who used to be a Baker, fed the steer one of her muffins and the steer nearly choked to death. But after Mr. Heath took a good look at it, the steer died of a heart attack. I was so sorry to read in the sick notes that Thad Carr was in the hospital with a punctured ear drum. He's a reporter now, and at the time of the accident, he was lis- tening in someone's keyhole lgossip reporter, youknowl and someone stuck the key in. Here's some news that really knocked me for a loop! Jeff Allinger has taken Phil Spitalmy's position as director of the All-Girl Orchestra. They say that the cute first trumpet player is none other than Tonimy Dorsey's cousin, Wayne Dorsey. I guess Wayne and Jeff really have a hot timel I noticed that Damion took his police car to Montgomery's Garage to be overhauled and the car hasn't run since. When Bob works on a car, it never works right, but at least he has a successful businessat washing car windows. ln the court news.. I read that Roberta Rowley is marrying husband Number 9. They say her ring finger has turned green from over exertion. Congratulations, Number 9, Roberta! Orchids to Irene Ashburn who has been promoted from a soda jerk to a pharmacist at the Ding Dong Bell Pharmaceutical House! They have had a terrible wind storm in the mid-West. It was caused by Carl Clay who just assumed the position as weather forecaster on the radio. He blew off so much that he blew through the radios causing a dreadful tragedy. With that I closea ...e paper and fell back sound asleep in my chair. Barb Plank Carl Carr Ruby Ceylor Jim Strong Janet Weeks 12
