We have had strong leadership in our student government and our activity program has generally been successful. In addition, our faculty has been active in curriculum development and our staff is stronger in many areas than it has been in the past. Both students and staff have worked to make our school a better one. I think we may all be proud of our accomphishments and that we will continue to seek improvement in all areas. Vincent E. Students have found both of them eager to help and willing to understand, as well as being dedicated to instilling a lasting appreciation of their subjects. They also have a type of humor and wit that will never be forgotten. This is their last year at QHS, but we hope they will leave knowing that they will be remembered by their many friends. Quiney was ranked No. 2 in Northern Calif, small schools, one of the highest positions the Trojans have ever achieved. Taking a look at the FRL season, the Trojans put their backs against the wall with the loss to Westwood. But they didn't give up as they won all the rest, including a convincing 24-0 shutout of powerful Greenville and a come from behind win over Chester in the finale. We wish a very good season for the varsity next year in the tough Westside League. FOOTBALL The Trojan J.V. s had a rather poor season with a 2-4-2 record; 1-4-1-in FRL play. They showed signs of greatness in their first two games in which they beat Fall River and tied Truckee. When league season opened, however, they started to falter. Sophomores, Forsyth, Blust, and Azevedo should help the Varsity next year; Freshmen Beverly, Horton, and Murray look to be the cream of the crop on the '74 Junior Varsity. FRONT ROW: L TO R, Mgr. D. Green gets hauled down by a pack of Grizzlies while Reynolds and Powell block. Coach Whiting and Joe Penland take a close look at the next play against Greenville. Blesse who was chosen to the All-League team. He also achieved the honors of making All-tourney in three tournaments-Truckee, Monogue, and the Plumas County Tourney-and was 15th in scoring in Superior Ca. with a 17.6 average. Helping with the scoring punch was John Mansell who had a 11.4 average. The rebounding power was provided by Tom Potillor who averaged 11.6 rebounds per game, good enough for the 18th spot in Superior Ca. Getting the fast break going was the job of Loren Stites who led the team in assists and added rebounding strength. Sophomore Steve Green was an all-around player, leading the team in blocked shots. The bench helped in a number of games with Bruce McKay, Rick Spears, and Jeff Ray being the key people. Ray and Green need the determined efforts of Tim Kurpjuweit, Ron Logan, and Randy Schwartz to be successful in next seasons quest for a FRL championship. US QUINCY VS. VARSITY BASEBALL 1974 IL.. Is this all our varsity baseball team has to do is goof off? No, but with all the snow on the playing field you can't get much practice in. So, for a few weeks at least, the Trojans will be trying to get their rhythm back inside. This year the Trojans will face stiff competition in FRL play with Portola, Westwood, and Herlong all fielding strong teams. Coach Ray feels that pitching is the Trojans weak spot with only one starter from last season returning. But hitting and fielding look good as 7 seniors return from last year’s squad. This list includes Sam Bailey, Rod Thornburg, Rick Spears, J. D. Blesse, Loren Stites, Tim Olson, and Cory Me Elroy. FRONT ROW L TO R: C. McElioy, B. Gossett, J. Ray, T. Kurpjuweit. SECOND ROW: T. Maybe its knowing we have just completed a segment of our lives that never will be recaptured... To ease our sad 'graduation blues', let us make sure we have these happy memories etched in our minds. Mrs. Howe: The senior girls were continually and enthusiastically active in all phases of athletics; Powder Puff teams, G. A. A., track, and aggressively determined to fight for and lay ground for more interscholastic activities for girls. Mr. McKay: The class of '74 was the first class who sponsored Sadie Hawkins and made a profit from it. Tney had many new games and it was well attended by enthusiastic students. Mr. Cochran: The Jr. Sr. Ball was an exciting, fun, and beautiful experience. The seniors can be proud of the effort they put into decorating and setting up the dance. SECRETARY: Cindy Abemethy ADVISOR: Mr. Cokor ! OFFICERS Mr. Cokor: The class of '74 flood to the challenge of accomplishing something, then ebb to lethargy. I'm sure as they age they will learn the will to accomplish goals without 'pulling it off. Though pulling things off is sometimes the spice of life which makes it bearable. Mr. Powell: The Senior Class of '73-'74 were ALIVE and FUN. They had a warm closeness and worked together on all projects to better the school. They were not lazy or cruel, but alive with energy and spirit. I will miss them. Frito: The class of '74 has come closer to putting it all together than any other class for the last six years. And where else could you find a Frank Tuttle, a 'Shoot out at the OK exhibit building', and the first successful girl wrestler at Quincy High. Puff football game was sponsored by the Poli-Sci Club, and typical of this years Activities, came off with overwhelming success. The teams, Truckers and Chuggers put in many hours of practice during and after school. Even tho to most students this game was for fun, the teams knew better. They took this game as serious as the boys do theirs, only a little spice is added. This is their first, last, and only game. PUFF The Cheerleaders, Queen Candidates and Coaches added their talents to the event. This year they held a Pep Assembly which turned out to be the best all year. The gym was packed and the spirit was high. This fun and excitement carried over to the game that night. Both teams did a great job in applying their 4-weeks of crammed learning, but the Truckers proved to be the best by winning. Keys, Cutting Boards, Bowls, Lamps, Racks, and Cabinets all came out of this class. They weren't afraid to try! Mr. Whiting took on a big job when he set up a Girls Wood Shop this year. But much to the Surprise of most, the girls did very good work. If not beauty, at least they brought laughs to the campus! They sponsored a all-day seminar using local and out of town speakers that talked about students rights in all areas of law. With the knowledge that being lectured to all day can get to you, the Law Day proved to be extremely successful. With the variety of topics and agencies, each student was able to find an area that specifically interested him. Good T. Washington M. Kelley D. Whiting M. Powell C. Margason J. Moulton R. It's also a cold gym in the morning and two laps for every towel left out the day before. Being an eighth grader is wishing you were bigger so the older guys wouldn't beat up on you.
