NOTES FROM A GOLDEN AGE Once upon a time humanity thought that Troy was a mythical city, a fabled fortress. In Greek legend it was the battleground for such great heroes as Agememnon, Odysses, Paris, and Achilles, the locale for stories about beauteous Helen of Troy and Aphrodite. Now we know this mythology was not all myth. Archeologists have found that Troy did exist. Troy was an eastern rampart of the great Grecian city states that ringed the Aegean Sea during man's first great Age of Reason. This Panhellenic League spawned the Classic Era of Greek civilization—one of mankind's noblest times. And Troy was a crossroads of this culture between the Near East and Western civilization. So it is with our Troy, City of Trojans, QHS. Your high school is your crossroads of culture, a scene of many academic victories and some defeats, a fortress of knowledge. It may provide your laurel wreath or your Achilles heal, but herein we, the PINE archivists and archeologists, publish the realities, memories, and myths of that fabled, fabulous era, 1969-70 A.D.
