He knew and taught his subjects well, hut this is just one of the things that makes him outstanding. His contagious energy, drive, and enthusiasm, are evident in the way he walks, talks, and acts. As a leader he inspired us to follow him; he set high goals, and we strived to attain them: he reached out to meet the minds of his students, and bring them with him on a journey into deeper thinking, feeling, and understanding. Our loss, when he left, was great, hut what we gained from knowing him, cannot he measured. Mr. John V. fA alar key, this is our way of saying thank you. Principal's Message included within the statement of philosophy of Quincy Junior Senior High School is a phrase which I feel is particularly significant. It states that one of the educational objectives of this school is to develop within the student the desire to use his natural gifts and to accept the challenge of the future.” In view of the demands which will he made on our young people this objective must rate high on the list when we come to evaluate the success of the school program in terms of its graduates. In looking down the roster of the class of ”62” it would he easy for us, the faculty, to he proud and to take credit for the number of students who seem to have developed these desires. Certainly we are proud, but the credit belongs to the individuals in the class. We will watch with interest the progress of this group in future years. Mr. Vincent E. Burns Vice-Principal MR. DONALD PENLAND Assistant Superintendent MR. ROBERT F. SCHOENSEE I Superintendent’s Message Now, more than ever before, students face the increasing responsibility of gaining a clear understanding of the complexities of life in our swiftly evolving society. Opposing, political ideologies on a world-wide basis beset us; democratic freedoms we cherish are threatened; social, economic, and moral patterns are changing swiftly. The world cannot stand still; yet, the hope of mastering change is in an educated public of which you are a part. To us, it is a satisfaction to know that the class of ‘62 is equipped with understanding to cope with these complexities. And we know that when the Class of ‘62 is gone, all students-new seniors and seventh - graders alike-wili strive to prepare themselves to meet the exigencies of living in the swiftly changing world of future years. We of the District Administrative Staff stand ready to assist you in every respect. We wish you all the best of success. Mr. Grant Youngs School Board 9 Left to right: MR. GUZENSKE, DR. BLE1BERG, MR. RAY History Fun” is a major vocabulary word to all Frosb and was no exception with us. During Homecoming activities Charlis Mathews was our candidate for queen and we received an award for the best Homecoming skit. The big event of this year was the Freshman Stomp. As Sophomores the class of '62 cast feeling tentacles about as they experienced everyday high school life. Nancy Gambell and Kathy Hasty were two of the senior high cheerleaders. Nancy Gambell was our candidate for Homecoming queen. The Sophomore Hop concluded our year. Class rings heralded the opening of our Junior year. Diana Bleiberg was our Homecoming queen candidate. We again received an award for the best Homecoming skit. Nancy Gambell and Kathy Hasty served another year as Senior high cheerleaders. We held the honor of being the first class of Quincy High School to present a musical play. We credit its great success to the director, Mr. John Malarkey. We had three candidates for the A.F.S. program; they were Werner Barth, Kelly Berkline, and Ann Van de Mark The climax of this year was the annual Junior Prom. It was decorated to the theme of Moonlight and Roses . The class of 1962 began its last year at Quincy High School with many exciting events. Among these was the arrival of Claude Dall’Occo, our foreign exchange student from Italy. Another was Homecoming. Our candidates for Homecoming were Nancy Batten and Irene Brustad. Irene was crowned queen at the halftime of the Portola game. In November we held our Fall Festival under the supervision of the P.T.A., and the proceeds were used to pay for the all-night party after Graduation. All of the Student Body officers were seniors. They were Werner Barth, President; Larry Sidener, Vice President; Diana Bleiberg, Secretary; and Carol Lyons, Treasurer. The Senior ball was held December 16 in the Liberal Arts Auditorium. The theme was Over the Rainbow and Irene Brustad and Tom Gillespie were crowned Queen and King. Life members in C.S.F. were Diana Bleiberg, Carol Lyons, Kelly Berkline, Irene Brustad, Wendy Webster, Ann Van de Mark, and Tom Gillespie. Irene Brustad was chosen head cheerleader for the school year. We concluded our last year with the Skip day and our Senior Banquet. We greatly appreciated the help of our advisors, Mr. Crawford and Mr. Ray. Wherever we of the class of 1962 end up, we will always remember the town, the school, the people, first loves, successes, failures and an education received from fine teachers. Education is not last or least, because it is the stepping stone from which each of us will launch our adult lives. 15 Mabel E. Bailey Nickname-May bee QHS 1,2.3.4! Hand 1,2,3.4! AFS Semifinalists Wendy Webster-Scbool program 58 Foreign Exchange Student Homework. . .Bah! Signor Claudio Dall’Occo When I shall think of the year I spent in Quincy, I shall remember it as the best time of my life. Here I had the chance to know American young people as well as older people. I shall not forget everybody's friendliness and friendship. Probably one day I shall be back to see these buildings and classrooms in which I did not only learn interesting subjects, but also I learned to appreciate schoolmates and teachers. Here I learned English as if I were a first grade student, even if I was a senior. Probably I shall see again some teachers, with white hair and the tracks of old age on their faces, but they will not look older to me, because I shall see them always as young as when 1 knew them. I shall always think of this experience as if the time did not pass, life did not change, because it will mean youth and happiness. Caught in the act. The menagerie 59 Advanced Band M. A smaller pep band, performed during basketball season. The annual Stockton music clinic was held on the first weekend in February and Quincy's band delegates were Mabel Bailey, Alvin Herndon, Carmel Smalley, Wendy Webster and Terry Williams. The annual spring concert on March 29 was well performed by both band and chorus, who joined together under the direction of Mr. Schott for a grand finale. The band traveled to Chico on April 28 for the Chico Musical Festival where they performed three numbers. On graduation night, the band brought to a close another successful year as the graduating seniors marched out to the traditional Huldigungsmarsch. Mr. Schott, director Left to right. Row 1: P. Seven members attended the Stockton music clinic and sang among four hundred voices under the direction of Mr. Donald Craig. The annual Spring concert was held on March 29th and the Chico festival was on the 28th of April. The year was ended in song as the chorus sang for Baccalaureate and Graduation.
