We have stated no central theme, but have tried to build the book around the life of the students here at school. Il' you feel that this book depicts school lile, and il the division pages incite youi humor, then we leel that it has been a success. V76 would like to express our sincere thanks to our advisor, Miss Mendosa, to Mr. Aaserude and his photography stall, and to the many teachers whom we have inconvenienced from time to time. for without this eo-operation, this book could not have been a reality. I I ' Out past is a collection of our memories. We . . remember the pleasant for the happiness it brings. We remember the unpleasant, on occasion, for the ,fe humility it engenders, and the sounder strength of character and surer accuracy of judgment. Those who have had the foresight to provide themselves wth a copy of The Pine, possibly realize this. though somewhat vaguelyg they will realize it better with the passing years. The book is in effect, a diary of the life of our school over this past year. It is a roster of friends and acquaintances and mutually enjoyed events. It will keep these fresh and vivid, and renew enjoyment of them again and again. I am venturing to hope that, as the truth of these statements is confirmed by time, some, at least, of the students will pause, now and then, to remember, with an unwonted gratitude, other, perhaps more serious experiences within the classrooms, the laboratories, the library, and the athletic fields which comprise our high school. From them you have learned much, but knowledge forgotten is knowledge shorn of its power. Remember therefore to use this advantage that this education has given you, and to add to it, in the years ahead. Principal Hanlon Thorp n 0 This past year the enrollment in Quincy Junior-Senior High School went well past the five hundred mark, five hundred students, all free to get the education they will need when they must accept the responsibilities of adulthood. We, the five hundred teen-agers, who spent this year heckling the teachers, dating, and generally living it up, are the men and women of tomorrow who must raise more teen-agers who will do the same things that their parents did in school. Soon we will be expected to go out into the world and prove to mankind that the love and affection gven us by our parents were not wasted, We must show that the time and money spent on our education was not an expense but merely a loan, a loan which we will repay with interest so high that our children and our children's children will be born into a world of peace and opportunity. The education we so often take for granted is. perhaps. the greatest hope of peace the world has had for centuries. Inly through intelligent reason- ing and open minds can we bring to the world a lasting peace. I believe that I speak for the entire student body when I say that this year has been not only one of larger attendance. but also one in which the students of Quincy High School have taken a big step toward repayinug the loan of education given us by our parents and teachers. This very annual you are reading is a record of some of the steps we students have taken toward fulfillment of our duties to society. Prrxizfzvzf Todd Prfly
