They became part of the Senior High School. They turned out a very successful year with class members taking part in many activities. Their Homecoming Candidate, Susan Orr, was crowned Princess. They also had a very pretty float which placed second in the Homecoming Parade. They had a very successful Ninth Grade dance with a Thanksgiving theme. Many Freshman boys took part in sports. The Freshman Class Advisor this year was Mr. Robert Erbeck, who was a great help to them. Homecoming On Thursday, September 24, 1953, members of Quincy Junior-Senior High School gathered for their annual Bonfire Rally and Dance. The Pep Club entertained the students with a skit. This year the Princess Candidates were: Seventh Grade, Marjorie Larios; Eighth Grade, Linda Boyd; and Ninth Grade, Susan Orr, who was elected Princess. The Queen Candidates were: Sophomores, Jan Farley; Juniors, Rosetta Ansell; and Seniors, Verda Kitchens, who was elected Queen. On Friday afternoon, many witnessed the Homecoming Parade, led by the Band, with floats from the Junior High, Sophomore Class, Junior Class and Senior Class following. That night the Homecoming Game was played with Greenville, the score being 19-6, Quincy's favor. The Princess and Queen were crowned by Student Body President Tom Hasty. The awards were presented for the best floats. The Senior Float won first, and the Junior High won second. First row, left to right: L. McNutt, J. Hampton, M. Mitchem, R. Stenberg, R. Wertz, R. Classroom Snaps Getting Ready! Industrious Student Kody President's Message Opportunity and advancement have become the key words of our generation. The progress of the United States has brought the promise of a good, solid security to the youth of today. The only price is integrity in all actions and the acceptance of the responsibility of safeguarding our freedoms. Action will insure this promise of tomorrow. The progress of our nation is dependent upon each unit that forms it. It is actually a composite of the expansion of the building blocks, the individual, the communities, the churches, and the schools. Looking over this past year, one can see the progress we and our school have made. As an organization we have expanded and become more efficient. Each individual has advanced in his knowledge and experience of the world, and our society profits from it as well as the person. Multiply this progress of our own school by a hundred-thousand or more, to include all the other schools and you will begin to see our country from a different perspective. You will see the greatness of the United States and the vital part the individual plays. The Student Council is proud to have been a part of Quincy High School and a factor in its prpgress this year. We have enjoyed promoting the school and hope we have become more efficient to benefit succeeding Councils. Thanks are due to the faculty and Student Body for their cooperation through-out the year. As Student Body President, I wish to thank the students for their support, and as a graduating Senior, my deep-felt gratitude goes to the faculty for tjie fine education I have received. TROJANS WIN CHAMPIONSHIP Displaying a powerful team with lots of speed, the Quincy Trojans won the Feather River League Championship. They won the championship with a record of five wins and one tie. Leading the Trojan attack was a light, fast, hard-charging line behind which a speedy backfield operated. Quincy also had the league’s best defensive team that only West-wood penetrated with any success. Quincy's loss was to Greenville, and Lassen's was inflicted by the Trojans. The remaining games to be played were with Chester, Lassen, and Portola. These decided the championship.
