fflDS ’ll fflSHlOnS The 1949 movie, Joan of Arc, spurred the weaker sex of this school into a year long panic of short hair “Do’s and “Cuts . The males, however, wore their annual fall “Butch” or “C rew haircuts. Winter encouraged such things as Dress-up sprees and safety pin chains. The Yule season brought “T” shirt, necktie, and suspender fads for the boys, and for the girls, colored hair of purple and red and green dyes. Mule Train and Frankie Laine clubs were the Pride of the Republic. And the New Year brought a Twirp Season no one will ever be able to forget! Spring brought its usual array of light clothes and bright colors, although heavy corduroys and tweeds had been the year’s specialty. And now another school year of goofy fads and changing fashions has come to a close, having sometimes provided a focal point too large to escape community comments and criticism. Nevertheless it has been a swell year, full of fun and gaiety for Mr. and Miss Teen-ager! 22

THE Plflf STflff We, the annual staff of this year’s Pine, sincerely wish that our combined efforts have proved fruitful in producing an annual of which you may be proud and which you will treasure. If this goal has been attained, then we shall know that our efforts have not been given in vain. We have planned this publication with only you, the student, in mind. We have tried to please as many of the organizations, departments, and classes as was possible. We acknowledge the fact that there may be mistakes among these pages; but we hope that you will pardon them and accept the fact that this is your annual, your school year of 1949-50 in review. You made it what it was. And always we will remember its fun and its fallacies, all part of your life in this building, this community, and in this your school. 24
