THE HI5T0RV OF QUIIKY HIGH 5IH00I [LOSS OF '44 The class of '44 began school with 62 members. During their freshman year Paul Whipple was elected president, Dan Collar, vice president, Marjorie Drake, secretary and Charles Lacey, treasurer. Miss Taverner was their advisor. They gave a very successful party and presented a play. The girls managed the school cafeteria. In their sophomore year they elected Dan Collar, president, Kaley Erickson, vice president, Eilen Gutler, secretary, Lewis Squyres, treasurer, Paul Whipple, commissioner, and Miss Scott, advisor. During this year they gave a party, the sophomore hop, which was decorated for Valentine's Day. The girls were the champions in basketball and }ane Morrow was treasurer for the Girls' Athletic Association. The membership of the class was 47. As Juniors the class distinguished its-self by putting on the prom, Quincy High's annual formal dance. The Gym was decorated like a French roof terrace. The queen of the prom was a junior girl, Jane Morrow. Two of the school yell leaders were juniors: Jane Morrow and Louise Oels. Connie Stapley was elected treasurer for the G. A. A. The class officers were president, Paul Whipple; vice president, Betty Roberts; secretary-treasurer, Iva Rae Miller; sergeant-at-arms, Robert McDonald. Mr. Page was the class advisor. Lois Heitman and Dan Collar were the junior commissioners. The enrollment had decreased to 35. The girls basketball team won the championship again. The class also put out the year book and the school paper Pine Breezes. The class of '44 began their senior year by electing as president, Dan Collar, vice president, Shasta Vardanega, and secretary-treasurer Betty Sundahl. Five of them were commissioners. They were—Dan Collar (student body president), Connie Stapley, Robert McDonald, Jim Peyton succeeded by Paul Whipple and Jane Morrow. Iva Rae Miller was elected president of the G. A. A. and Barbara Forsythe treasurer. The two school yell leaders were Jane Morrow and Louise Oels. Mr. Schott was the class advisor. This class gave a very successful Senior Ball and Banquet. The hall was decorated in a patriotic motif. They also put out the year book and many of them also worked on the school paper. The enrollment of the graduating class was 28. Several of the boys joined the armed forces and left before graduation. They were: Jae Edwards, Owen Petruske, Charles Lacey, Jim Peyton, Roger Baker and R. K. Dunn. Other boys leaving shortly after graduation were Charles Reed, Leonard Thayer, Joe Vieira, Roy Ramelli, Dan Collar. Through the four years the class had taken a very active part in athletics; and many of the players won championships in tennis, baseball, basketball and track.
