SENIOR POEM . . . Timid little Freshies we entered Quincy High Fear and apprehension written in our eye, Shy of the seniors and afraid of our books. Especially the former who gave us stately looks. The Frosh initiation we thought would torture be. Waiting as we did with much anxiety. Hooded figures we pictured with paddles in their hands. Flailing us vigorously and barking strange commands. But no Klansman appeared, much to our relief, Instead was a ceremony informal and brief. Where we the Freshmen had nothing else to do, But act out some silly things the Seniors told us to. The studies profound—how hard they seemed at first. English was difficult but Algebra was the worst. A teacher appeared a demon in disguise, Telling us things which sounded like lies. But our third year passed—graduation began to lurk Like a pleasant shadow upon our High School work. The work became easier than ever before, For we knew that Shakespeare would soon bother us no more. But now we are Seniors, and looking back we find. The teachers instead of cruel were really very kind; That the work, though hard, was really for the best. Intended to equip us for every worldly test. Now the eve of parting has suddenly drawn nigh. We Seniors must bid adieu to dear old Quincy High. Though in our youthful hearts there's not the slightest pain. Still we'd like to see our classmates and teachers once again.
