Quincy finished tied for sixth in what proved to be one tough year of competition, because of some senior dominated teams. Quincy's highlights include a big ovetime victory at Jonesville and an upset of Homer. Also the Lady O's showed improvement throughout the year, which should be important since all but one player return for next year. The MVP for Quincy was Lee Brown, and the Most Improved was Chris Christian. Angie Curtis, Tammy Rzepka, and Lee Brown were given honorable mention recognition. 60 Golfers Swing Hard But fall short of season goal Most Valuable Team Members: Front: Steve Trail, Daren Carpenter, jeff Hawes, and Scott Maggart. After two consecutive league championships, the Quincy Wrestling team of 1985-1986 began a rebuilding year. Led by Senior Co-Captains George Jenkot and Chad Horn, the young Orioles, besieged by illness and injuries, man- aged to finished tied for third in the Big 8 Con- ference with a record of 4 wins and 2 losses. The high point of our season was when Senior Hut George Jenkot placed 5th in the state competi- tion at Middleville. Volleyball Quincy spikers gain experience Team Members: Back Row: Lee Ann Brown, Jenni Leosh, Connie Scotl, Tammy Rzepka, Karilyn Teachout, Coach Becky Freeman, Manager Kyle Leosh, Front Row: Dawn Quimby, Debbie Marvin, Lee Sattler, Michele Quimby, Betty Barnett, Bobbie Shilling. This year was a big learning experience for both coach and players. We did quite well in tournament play but were not as suc- cessful in conference games. The Homer Invitational where we made it into the semi-finals and our final conference match against where we had a strong win were the two highlights of the season. I feel a lot of enthusiasm for next year because of the experience gained this year. With only 3 returning letter winners, our team was very young. This was reflected by our inconsistent play. 67 Baseball Brian Price pitches no hitter Coach Jim Barve, Steve Harmon, Jeff Brown, Brian Price, Scott Withington, Doug Harper, Kevin Stempian, Shawn Talbot, Wade Paul, Donald Wilson, Darren Carpenter, Coach Greg Gruner, Manager; Kirt Barve. The Varsity Baseball Team finished their season in style, winning their last two games to finish at 8-11, 6-8 in the conference. The season finale, in fact, was a no-hitter pitched by Brian Price, who also had the on- ly hit in tne game, a solo shot over the 330 mark in left-center field. Earlier in the year, the Orioles won the runners-up trophy at the Bronson Invitational, but more impor- tantly, continued from there in showing improvement necessary for a team with a core of younger players. Individual honors for the year included: Most Valuable Player — Don Kahain David Wilson. Most Improved — Chad Horn. First Team All-Conference — Don Kahain (outfield), Second Team All-Conference 68 Track Girls continue winning tradition Team Members: Row 1: Shirley Delaney, Loretta Tobalski, Janelle Jeffrey, April Phillipy, Debbie Berry, Marci Baker, Sonja Bean, Jerri Clark. The experience gained by these athletes and the positive attitude they developed will help them to steadily improve and become a fine team in the future. The coaching staff was extremely proud of the effort of these young athletes. J.V. GIRLS EARN BEST DEFENSIVE AVERAGE IN LEAGUE Team Members: B: Manager Melissa Dodd, Laney Fickle, Kelie Micheals, Connie Scott, Michelle McClughen, Jennie Leosh, Coach Larry Moore. F: Barb McClellan, Lonna Otis, Michele Jeffries, Amy Allen. Through hard work and togetherness, the team showed vast improvement during the course of the year. The girls ended up with a 9 and 9 record, but more importantly, they were able to meet every challenge that confronted them. The highlight of the season was that the team had the best defensive average in the league. 78 J.V. BASKETBALL Team Members: Front: Chad Purcell, Clint Cook, Chad McGlothlen, Kirk Cutler, Jeff Craig, Brett Allman. Back: Jeff Lutterbeck, Greg Dobson, Mike McConnell, Dour Tanner, Trent Blair, Wade Paul, Todd Male, Coach; Chuck Cook. Quincy's J.V. basketball team finished third in the Big Eight with a 10-4 record. A one-point loss to Jonesville kept the Orioles from sharing the League Title with Jonesville and Concord. The Orioles featured a balance attack using a strong inside game, full court press, and fast break to score an average of 44 points per game while allowing a 39 point average on defense. The leadership of a fine Sophomore group will be missed next season. However the enthusiasm and experience of this year's Freshmen will provide a solid foundation for next year's team. 79 J. V. Most of the cast were first time actors and actresses, and there were new directors and a new stage manager. Although the Drama Production faced these new changes, a very enjoyable show was performed. This year's production was a mystery-comedy by Jonathon Troy. Its wide range of characters and use of subtle puns and mild humor kept the audience intrigued as the suspense of the mystery unraveled. 87 Bottom Row: David Fillmore, Missy McMicheal, Autumn Hardy, Cindy Fillmore, Emily Fairbanks, jamie Lemke, Michelle Hawkins, Jackie Cash. VOZAR INSURANCE AGENCY 18 West Chicago Quincy 639-5143 MANY THANKS TO OUR PATRONS, SPONSORS, AND ADVERTISERS FOR THEIR SUPPORT WE HAVE LIVED AND LOVED TOGETHER We have lived and loved together Through many changing years; We have shared each other's gladness And wept each other's tears; I known ne'er a sorrow That was long unsoothed by thee; For thy smiles can make a summer Where darkness else would be. Like the leaves that fall around us In autumn's fading hours, Are the traitor's smiles, that darken When the cloud of sorrow lowers; And though many such we've known, love, Too prone, alas, to range, We both can speak of one love Which time can never change. We have lived and loved together Through many changing years, We have shared each other's gladness And wept each other's tears. And let us hope the future, As the past has been will be: I will share with thee my sorrows, And thou thy joys with me. Charles Jeffreys 173 WRESTLING ALL STARS All Stars: Wrestling: George Jenkot.
