Selling ads, scheduling pictures, selling yearbooks, taking pic- tures, and laying out pages are only part of the work necessary in making a good yearbook. I would like to thank our advisor Mrs. Joanne Finley and the rest of the staff for the fine job that they have done. We are proud to present to you with the utmost pride the 1983 Oriole. The entire yearbook staff hopes that you will recall many fond memories of the 1982-83 school year. tftojua CduJUyi Working on the 1983 Oriole has been a rewarding experience that 1 will always cherish. It has been a lot of fun and hard work to put the yearbook together. Many people have worked long and hard on it. At this time I would like to thank Chris Kline and Scott Horn who sold the most ads, also, all the other staff members who sold ads. But most of all I would like to thank Mrs. Joanne Finley who has worked very hard to make the 1983 Oriole a reality. Remembering the fun and laughter, Yes, high school days are precious but brief, The problems and fears, Where all your dreams come true; And watching all our memories grow It is not the end, but the beginning Throughout our high school years. Of a life we’ll start anew. — Lisa Booher 29 (1) Gail Condra and Brett Cutler, best smile (2) Eric Rice and Diane Fidler, tallest; Brent Parkinson and Ginger Hartbarger, shortest (3) Lisa Booher and A WIND BETWEEN THE HOUSES A most unusual play entitled A Wind Between the Houses was this year’s QHS dramatic offering, presented by the Quincy Society for the Performing Arts on the evenings of December 4 and 5, 1982. The play, a comedy-drama, starred Kim Hagy as Grade Martin, a mildly eccentric widow who keeps the ashes of her deceased husband on the mantlepiece. Her insistence on maintaining regular conversations with the remains causes her selfish and conniving daughter Sheila and her nasty and egocentric son John (played by Kris Quimby and Kurt Spalding) to destroy their mother’s most prized possession — the urn of ashes — in a most heartless and callous way. The play’s unusual course of events and colorful characters provided a most unusual evening of theatre. Maurice Hill’s play was directed by Mr. Christopher Walczak and was his twenty-third production at QHS. The performances were highlighted by the talents of Jennifer Dobson, Eric Huttenlocher, Rachel McRae, Paula Falzon, Mike Kanaby, Jodi Paul, and Shawna Walters. Sarah Brickey acted as Mr. Walczak’s production assistant, and Brent Parkinson acted as stage manager. Front: Jennifer Dobson, Shawna Walters, Jodi Paul, Kim Hagy, Paula Falzon. Quincy had been picked by critics to be no better than fourth before the season began. Quincy finished the season tied for 1st Place with Athens losing only to Union City in league play. For the second year in a row Quincy kept the “bell” by defeating Reading. The team lost their final contest to Michigan Center in the Cascade Playoffs. The Lady Orioles finished the season with a 4-3 league record and an 8-3 dual meet record. Quincy Girls’ state record of 65 consecutive dual meet wins came to an end when they were defeated by Conference Champs Athens. This record involved hundreds of individuals during the seven-year string and is a tribute to our school and our coaching staff. The girls won the Bronson Invitational for the 8th year in a row and tied for 2nd place in the Mendon Relays. This year the 220 yard hurdles were replaced with the 330 yard low hurdles. Setting a record in this event was Connie Quimby with a time of 49.8. Diane Gilbert won 1st Place in the Conference Meet in the discus with a throw of 102T1 . Four girls scored at least 100 points: Connie Quimby — 147 Vt points, Jill Philippy — 136' 2 points, Kelly Johnson — 119 2 points and Tammy Dooley — 115 points. Kelly Johnson is in 6th Place in Career High Points with 3723 points. The JV’s had some tough competition but they showed their determination and gained some valuable experience. THE TEAM — Front: Manager Steve Trail, Carson Neible, Ed Marsh, Matt Pepper, Teddy Kahaian, Bob Hooley, Jason Bailey, Tom Lothamer, Gordon Bassage, Scott Locke, Billy Jef- fries, Manager Jeff Hutchins. Middle: Coach Chuck Cook, Tracy Maggart, Mark Houvener, Kenny Kurtz, Matt McCon- nell, Jerry Jackowiak, Dave Murray, Mike Rodgers, Tim Berry, Ed Cariuty, Brad Parrish, Coach Dennis Quimby. An improved offensive output and a tenacious defense were the major reasons for this team’s success. THE TEAM — Front: Frenda Otis, Monica Harris, Denise Riegel, Keli Cutler, Stephanie Roush, Cyndi Michael. Back: Manager Laney Fickle, Connie Quimby, Stephanie Wymer, Lori Babbage, Karime Cariuty, Angela Basse, Rhonda VanRiper, Shari Brown and Coach Greg Gruner. Not Pictured: Annette Paul and Manager Chris Christian. 133 JV’S YOUNG BUT IMPRESSIVE Five Sophomores joined nine Freshmen in forming this season’s Junior Varsity Basketball Team. Rick Deal and Scott Lutterbeck led the team in scoring while Allen Blodgett and Rick Deal led in rebounding. David Chaney and Scott Locke added their ball handling and defensive skills to the squad. The nine Freshmen improved steadily throughout the season to make a valuable contribution to the team’s efforts. These first year players having a very limited middle school program learned quickly and should be the foundation of a strong team next season. The team finished the season with a 6-8 Conference Record and a 6-13 Overall Record. THE TEAM — Front: Scott Lynd, Ed Cariuty, Scott Lut- terbeck, David Chaney, Jason Bailey, Scott Locke. Back: David Hammond, Jerrod Robinson, Allen Blodgett, Scott Sobiech, Todd Thibideau, Rick Deal, Robert Smith, Joey Mitchell, Coach Chuck Cook. VOLLEYBALL SQUAD SHOWS PROMISE The J.V. THE TEAM — Front: Stephanie Roush, Dawn Quimby, Denise Riegel, Keli Cutler, Jill Philippy, Frenda Otis. Back: Robin Laurell, Tina Rumsey, Connie Quimby, Karime Cariuty, Stephanie Roush, Lori Babbage, Coach Judy Burgess. 135 JV’S HOLD KEY TO FUTURE The JV Baseball team finished the season with a 1-7 record. There was much excitement though as three of the Orioles’ losses were by one run which makes for good games but nothing in the win column. The team improved throughout the season and finished on a good note by defeating Bronson. THE TEAM — Front: Manager Chris Ostrander, Shawn Bowers, Chad Horn, Scott Lynd, Ed Cariuty, Joe Berry, Manager Jeff Lutterbeck.
