A new life has now begun. Our feelings may vary from optimism to doubt. Many questions arise in our minds. What will happen? Can I make it? Have I learned we 11 enough? The answers are ours to find. Right now we'll undoubtedly fail sometime in our life, But all we can do is our best The future is still dark, but the outline is there. And the past grows dimmer each day. We'll remember that past and learn from our mistakes. But we won't let the past block our way We'll each try to make our own place in the world. And we'll try to fit into that place. We'll try to remember that ours is a life Not a contest, not a fight, not a race We'll try to finish as much as we can Of all that has been left undone This won't be the last you'll be hearing of the Class of 71 By--Vikki VanLandingham Yes, ' Those Were The Days” 47 SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDS: BA CK ROW, L. to R.: A. December 11 marked the beginning of a new tradition at Q. H. S. The Snowflake Social”, sponsored by the yearbook staff, was a dance decorated in the festive Christmas theme. The Christmas tree graced the telephone booth corner, and all the goodies and refreshments were enjoyed by all. Some even managed to find mistletoe. Anyway, like the song goes, we sang and danced forever and a da-y . Peace Chick! Meanwhile, back at the Christmas tree ... 84 The Yearbook Staff has done it again. For two con- secutive years the club has produced two Miss Orioles ! Yet they can not take all the credit. Sally Fosdick, our vivacious 1971 Miss Oriole, has all the spirit-filled qualifications to capture her crown. The student body must have realized her spirit, or they would not have selected her to represent their definitions of a dedicated sports’ spectator. BELOW: Dorothy Felts, 1970 Miss Oriole, happily bestows the title of 1971 Miss Oriole on Sally Fosdick. 1971 Miss Oriole, her court, and escorts (L to r) Rick Keith, Linda Miller, Mark King, Judy Waligoria, Jarrett Seigler, Queen Sally, Tim Howard, Trudy Macklin, Mark Lane, and Elaine Wood, first runner up. Missing from the picture is Pam Fenno and her escort, Perry McMillian. Sal’s Page 85 Band Bust: The 1971 Band Bust, Our Humorous Heri- tage, proved to be very hilarious, yet a fine display of singing, musical accompaniments, and a patriotic reading were also equally en- joyable. Skits dominated the show, such as: The Hamburger Honey's, Grunchsmoke, Twitch Itch, The Upset Stomach, and Last Fox Hole in Siberia. The climax of the vari- ety show was the crowning of the Melody Queen, Debbie Johnson. The Grapes of Wrath, a musical combo composed of a select group of musicians, played many entertaining selections. 86 Our Humorous Heritage 87 Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits, and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself. Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve. And, like this insubstantial pageant faded. Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. RIGHT: Here we see a side of Terry's shrewdness. Junior Play . . . George Mass disorganization, cooling tempers, a flashing smile, beads of perspiration, and mumbled side comments. Shouts of direction, pleas for memorization, and a moment of panic. Tears of relief, dedicated time, the pounding of a hammer, the shuffling of props, and injured egos. Words of encouragement, a helping hand, and a troubled heart. Working with others, making quick excuses, and missing a practice. Cries of dismay, gales of laughter, a torn script, and green and brown paint. Smoke from cigars, and an unsteady ladder. The audience's applause, and lingering and deathly pauses. The whisk of the velvet curtain, the warmth from the lights, and a sigh of satisfaction. Thus, was the junior play, presented in April. And as the poem goes, it bid pretty fair. Washington Slept Here The Play seems out for an almost idefinite run. Don’t mind a little thing like the actors fighting. The only thing I worry about is the sun.
