Elwood Larsen, superintendent; Mr. Harold Schultz, trustee (1963); Mr. Elmer Dobson, trustee (1961); Mr. Blaque Knirk, president (1961); Mr. Franklin Kratzer, trustee (1962). Board Members Watched New School Progress Good schools costs money but cheap schools prove very expensive over a period of time in terms of proper development of youth, ” Mr. Elwood Larsen, superintendent, stated regard- ing one of the school board's major projects of this year - the building of the new high school and the addition to the elementary school. Another problem of the school board is the revision of school board policies, which is an annual process, in order to keep policies up to date. This year because of a state law there are seven on the board instead of five. This is re- quired for all fourth class districts so that there is better representation on the school board. In January, five of the seven members of the school board attended the South-Western Convention in East Lansing for school board members. On August 1, 1960, the elementary addition was started; it was completed on January 31, 1961. The breaking of the ground for the new high school was in November, 1960. The high school, under the construction of the Baker-VanderVeen Construction Company, is planned for com- pletion in February, 1962. Due partially to increased costs without additional revenue the budget became a real problem this year. The school board is hoping tor a more favorable state aid bill which would alleviate some pressure on local taxation.
