Mr. LloydM.Creighton The Goldenrod staff is pleased and honored to dedicate the yearbook of 1979 to retired principal Mr. Lloyd Creighton. This past November Mr. Lloyd Creighton. Quincy High School principal retired. Mr. Creighton had been the principal since 1963. Arriving amid a decade which demanded change, he lived up to the expectations of the sixties. Mr. Creighton has been a great advocator of innovation, and the changes he has made at Quincy High dur- ing his fifteen years here have been numerous. When Mr. Creighton came to Quincy High in 1963. the school was very strict and the stu- dents extremely limited. Business students were restricted to taking business classes only while college prep students could not even take typing. Mr. Creighton made the well rounded individual his first priority. A close personal friend of Mr. Creighton’s, Science Department head Mr. John Chrusciel. commented that Mr. Creighton has been behind many major changes for the betterment of students, scholastically, athletically, and in the area of extra curricular activities. Mr. Creigh- ton was behind the merging of the high school and the Vo-Tech and was the founder and fundamental supporter of the Method Center. As Mr. MacDonald, head of the English Department explained, “Mr. Creighton has been a supporter of the total modernization of Quincy High School. Mr. Creighton is also respon- sible for ROTC in Quincy High. He brought the organization to the school during the turbu- lent sixties when it was protested by many parents and students. He is also glad that the school has calmed down and returned to relative normalcy. Yet. Mr. Creighton feels that the school is still rich with spirit, one different from the attendance of football games and rallies, but a spirit shown by the large number of students who receive good grades, participate in sports, and the growing importance of the many clubs and organizations. Mr. Creighton him- self was the advisor of the chess club here at Quincy High as well as being an administrator who lent his support to all of the activities at the school. Mr. Creighton is responsible for the Resource Centers, and is a supporter of experimental education. A little known fact is that it was Mr. Creighton’s idea to try open campus. Mr. Creighton encouraged the use of the method Centers and the new techniques of teaching Spanish which have proved highly successful. The head of the language Department. Mr. Yezukevich, is pleased with the progress and the fact that Mr. Creighton has also supported the International Food Festival, another expe- riment which has worked out well. Mr. Yezukevick commented that Mr. Creighton is very “personable” and generated a warm relationship with a faculty and students. 6

Mr. Creighton is happy with the changes he has instituted at Quincy High School. Two changes he might have made had he stayed on was to try to involve parents more with their children's educations and to have promoted career education for young women. Mr. Creighton retired to Sarasota, Florida and expressed the thought that he would like to get a part time administrative job in Florida. Mr. Creighton would bring a tremendous amount of experience with him to such a position. He started out as a teacher in 1941 at a small school in New Hampshire. He taught four different science and math classes. He was also the basketball, touch football, and girls’ softball coach. Mr. Creighton’s career in teach- ing has only been interrupted once, when he served three years in the army during World War II. He forecast the weather and taught others to do the same. Mr. Creighton said that he had no regrets, and tfiat he leaves the school on good terms with the faculty and staff. Mr. Creighton returned to the school for graduation ceremonies in June. During Mr. Creighton’s fifteen years at Quincy High School he continuously encouraged all the students and supported the programs he introduced. Mr. Creighton has developed a closer relationship between Teachers and students, making the process of education more enjoyable and responsive. The changes Mr. Creighton has instituted will continue to favorably effect the quality of education in the future. The yearbook staff, on behalf of the students of Quincy High School, is happy to extend a heartfelt thanks and a wish for happiness in the future for Mr. Lloyd Creighton. Mr. Lloyd M. Creighton
