•Vvi QUINCY HIGH VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL SCHOOL MRS. NANCY CHRISTIAN Mrs. Christian started teaching at Quincy High School in 1964. Prior to her job here at Quincy, she taught at Ashland High School. She taught Latin and French to the students of Quincy and was well-liked by both students and faculty. Mrs. Christian was a warm, patient, soft-spoken per- son who was always concerned with the welfare of her students and believed that everything in life was a long learning process. Those that knew her realize that she contributed a great deal to the growth, education, and happiness of all. Mrs. Christian was graduated from Regis College: she also took graduate courses at Boston College and was actively involved in Summer Workshops. Mrs. C'hristian and Mrs. Myatt kept Latin alive at Quincy High. Together they would plan many outside activities for the Latin Club members. A hard-working person. Mrs. Christian was also gifted with an extra-special spiritual drive that made her an extra-special person to her many friends at Quincy. Mrs. Christian passed away April 4. 1977. Dedica tion ROSMICK AJEMIAN Ross Ajemian was born on November 6. 1916 in Aleppo. Syria. His Armenian parents came to Amer- ica in 1919 settling in Roslindale. Massachusetts. His elementary and high school education was in the Boston School System. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the Army-European sector. In 1947 he was married to Elizabeth Manuelian, a Quincy resident, and thereafter lived in Quincy. He operated his own bakery for twelve years in Dorchester. Mass, but then decided to enter education and at 55 years of age was granted a B.S. degree from Fitchburg State Teachers College. During this time he was teaching baking arts for the Manpower Development and Training Program. Greater Lawrence Regional Vocational Technical High School and lastly Quincy Vocational Technical High School. He was active in his youth as one of the founding members of the Armenian Youth Federation, an organization dedicated to the principle of ethnic minorities contributing to the American scene. He worked vigorously for his St. Steven’s Armenian Apostolic Church as a kitchen consultant and in other means compatible with his talents. Ross passed away July 19. 1977. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his son. Ross, and his daugh- ter. Because of the ratio of students to teachers it is able to provide a very personal and individual learning environment. The teachers arc the greatest asset to the program: they work very hard and have a great deal of dedication. One of the things that makes the program work is the personal advisor system: each student is assigned a teacher with whom he can dis- cuss any problems he may have, school related or otherwise. The teachers are only able to do so much though: it is up to the students to decide if they are willing to work hard to achieve their goals. And they do: some students that were failing everything and cutting every class previously are now getting good grades, going to all their classes and achieving a feel- ing of personal satisfaction. The atmosphere of the school is very positive: the students are very close to each other and the teachers. It's almost like a big fam- ily. I have never been as motivated or as happy in a school before, and I hope that others will be able to experience what I have this year. DO YOU REMEMBER? Some say it was the most vicious blizzard to hit this area in the last one hundred years. In all. 29 inches of snow was blasted on the city by gale-force winds. Quincy students missed six days of school, but found the joys of extensive snow-shoveling. The Bliz- zard of ’78 was an adventure that everyone will remember. Above, maybe there is a car beneath that white mound. Maybe there isn't. At least the car (above right) has had the good sense to show itself so its owner can start the evacuation. Must have been quite a view from the house at left, looking out over the angry sea. «1 45 r Hugh earth-moving equipment sometimes overlooked things hidden under the great white blanket. In this ease, the blue and white benches of Quincy were the casualties. Want to know what this is? Wait until the spring thaw. Somewhere out there, underneath it all. is Quincy Bay. In a storm like this one. the best place to he is in a snug harbor. Mother Nature showed scorn for the sacred automobile, humbling it under massive drifts. The bold stripe on the tree trunk clearly establishes the direction and the ferocity of the winds. The poor dog in the middle of the picture sits for- lorn he can't find his favorite fire hydrant. McDonough A rainbow is more than just a collection of pretty colors. In the Old Testament of the Bible, God places his bow in the sky as a sign of the covenant established with Noah after the flood. Folklore tells of a pot of gold which lies at the end of the rainbow. The bands seem to form a heavenly highway that beckons one to seek a distant destination. Whatever the interpretation, the rainbow remains a perfect example of simple, natural beauty. 97 iB m 98 99 J 100 02 103 One of the individuals who has influenced thousands of young men from Quincy High-Voc Tech is a well-known figure in the school's rich football heritage — Coach Conroy. At the close of the 1978 season. Coach Conroy will step down as the Presidents' Head Coach after 14 years. The Senior Class would like to thank Coach Conroy for his leadership, hard work, and devotion to the football teams that he has shaped. 105 106 Although the dictionary defines “blue” ao any color between green and violet, this seems hardly to cover the significance that blue has for the class of 1978. Of course there's true blue” and blue ribbon and blue Monday,” but they can’t compare to the Big Blue of the Presidents. I 17 Where does the rainbow end? Is there really a pot of gold at the end of the quest? These questions are for the individual members of the class of 1978 — they are the bright colors that contributed to the variety and richness of their unique rainbow. Timothy M. There arc the jawbones — who do all the talking, but very little else. There are the knucklebones — who knock everything anyone else tries to do. And finally, there is the backbone — who gets under the load and does the work. The backbone of Goldenrod '78 and the previous five editions of Goldenrod has been Mr. Jones. His unselfish devo- tion and guidance has helped make this yearbook what it is: A collection of pic- tures. words, and memories of our three years at Quincy High and Vo- Tech.
