Quincy High School has been our tree of knowledge and of life for the past three years. Within these walls our character has been molded, our friendships made, and our lives enriched by understanding. The seeds of knowledge and wisdom have been firmly planted in our minds, and now we are ready to face the future. Al- though we have partaken of the best nourishment that Quincy High School has to offer, there is still a never- ending supply for all who will take our place in years to come. Long after we have attained our goals in life, our alma mater will stand, sturdy and strong, as a tree of knowledge for the future youth of Quincy. t 5

Dr. Charles Djerf; Dr. Edward S. Mann; Mr. Charles Sweeney; Mr. A. Wendell Clark, Vice- Chairman; Mr. Amelio Della Chiesa. Chairman; Dr. Paul A. Gossard, Superintendent of Schools; Miss Marion Nilsen, Clerk; Mrs. Alice Mitchell; Mr. Paul K. Duffey. To the Class of 1958: Members of the School Committee seldom have occasion for any direct relationship with the student body; yet, we are vitally interested in your welfare and educational advancement. It is my privilege to direct this message to the members of your class on behalf of my fellow committee members. During the twelve-year period since you entered the first grade, great changes have taken place in our school system. From a physical standpoint we have added six new buildings and completed additions to five existing schools to accommodate an increased enrollment of more than four thousand pupils. Educationally we have added kindergarten classes, new trade classes, special classes for sight conservation and other physically handicapped pupils. Our cur- riculum at all levels has been improved and strengthened to provide a well-rounded education to meet modem needs. Educational consultants at the elementary and secondary levels now co-ordinate materials and methods, while teacher workshops have served to improve and strengthen the effectiveness of their teaching. To function as a high-grade school system it is costing more than five million dollars per year, or about one-third of the total tax levied on Quincy taxpayers. Our average cost per pupil is about $273.00 per year, which means that the city of Quincy has invested more than $3000.00 in your education, to say nothing of the cost of new buildings and expanded facilities. It is our sincere hope that your educational experience has justified our faith in your ability to make the best possible use of your talents and to become worthy citizens in a better community. Cordially yours, Vice Chairman Quincy School Committee 6
