Invitation to the Rotary Club. Five different foreign languages are offered at Quincy High School. Three year courses in French, German, and Spanish, a two year course in Italian, and second year Latin arc given. The teachers endeavor to teach pupils to speak and write the languages and to learn of the people, culture, and life of the other nations. To help its pupils appreciate and know some of the cultural aspects of life, QHS provides classes in art, practical arts, and music. Classes in art appreciation, art history, art in dress, freehand drawing, and history of costume show art in its practical and cultural forms. Courses in cafeteria training, clothing and textiles, diatetics, food and nutrition, home decoration, and drivers’ education provide a practical background for the citizens of tomorrow. For those who are musically inclined, band, glee club, chorus, chapel choir, and classes in music appreciation and harmony arc available. Just before the toss. Getting clerical experience. Adjusting to QHS. UNIVAC could never beat this. A word from the wise. country. An opportunity to participate in a miniature UN was given to ten QHS students on March 22. With students from many other high schools they visited Har- vard University; each, representing a different country, attended committee meetings and a General Assembly. With the increased emphasis on scientific advance- ment, the demand for students proficient in mathe- matics and science becomes greater each day. To meet this new challenge, QHS offers courses in aeronautics, biology, chemistry, physics, photography, radio, and applied science. These classes help students to under- stand better the natural laws operating in the world we live in, introduce them to laboratory work, and ac- quaint them with the scientific method. Mathematics courses, ranging from general mathematics to solid geometry and trigonometry, not only prepare future engineers but also develop clear and logical thinking. 48 words a minute. 47 mistakes! 16

To prepare students socially as well as vocationally for their future life, there arc class discussions, group projects, conferences, and audio-visual instruction. School adjustment, family living, and vocational ad- justment courses present different phases of social and vocational problems. These classes try to prepare the youth at QHS to meet and overcome the problems that might confront them. To give pupils an introduction to actual working con- ditions, the Distributive Education Program places some students in part-time jobs which arc under super- vised employment. To help its youth live a physically healthy life, QHS has health instruction in its gym classes and gives health tests, such as physical examinations, audio and sight tests, and also TB Tests.
