To the Class of 1958: As you read the pages of this, your yearbook, in the days ahead, you may look back upon your high school as a place set back from the road, like a refreshing grove of trees, a place affording you a chance for growth of mind and personality. In the years ahead my hope is that you will try to give to your community, your friends, your families, that same beauty of life and refreshment of mind which the trees give to the traveler who comes upon them in his journey. Quincy Public Schools Sincerely, Superintendent To the Class of 1958: “’Tis education forms the common mind, As the twig is bent, the tree's inclined.” For twelve long years you have been climbing the tree of education. I hope many of you will want to venture higher. May you study to help in the development of spectacular electronic devices, interspace travel, un- limited food and fuel supply, amazing medical progress and other miracles of science. These things are not the result of chance; they are the result of work, work of generations of world culture that have been blessed with the strong urge to progress—to do—to develop—and to pass on to succeeding generations the fruit of their work. From this I have learned: that work for the indi- vidual is a fortress against want, a shield against de- generation, a lance in the struggle for progress, and for our nation it is the key to our very existence.
