E: 'I r: lf, .J 'f:H1n-F GIRL,S BQSKETBUU. - The season for the girl's basketball team opened with about 25 girls reporting. A short schedule of only ten games was played, due to transportation and schedul- ing problems. Much enthusiasm was shown, and after two week's practice the season's opener was played on the home floor against Cushing. This game proved to be a walk-away for the locals, and they handed the Cushing girls a sound 61-ll trouncing. Joleen Baum set the single game scoring record for the season, getting 59 points. The next game against the powerful Holstein sextet found the home team on the short end of a 44 to 15 score. The girls battled hard, but the superior height and experience of Holstein's girls was too much for them. After a long lay-off, due to inability to fill the schedule, the girls went to Galva, where bad luck caught up with them, and they dropped a 31-18 decision to the Galva team. After this game, the girls started clicking against Cleghorn on the home floor, and sent them home with a 41-57 pasting. However, the following week Heri- den handed our girls a setback, taking an exciting 24-23 victory in the last minute of play. With the record standing 2-5 against them, the team decided to do some- thing about it, and proceeded to paste a 55-9 decision on Correctionvillo, and set Anthon back twice in succes- sion 51 to 21 and 54 and 16. Then came the sectional tourney at Holstein, and the Quimby girls drew the strong Odebolt team. To the surprise of most peop1e,the local six battled them on practically even terms for the first half, only to be outdistanced during the last half and lose 52 to 17. This left one more game on the schedule. This one against the powerful Holstein team at Holstein. The end the season with local team lost this game 54 to l7to an even break--5 won and 5 lost. This record was not so bad, considering the caliber of oppo- sition played. Jeleen Baum led the team scoring for the season with 156 points, followed by Betty Day with 105. Betty L. Stevenson tallied 47, and Roe Campbell 25. Celestine Hollingshead, Lucille Nelson, and Beth Graham handled the defensive duties, being helped out by Bonita Graham. Several of the girls graduate, but prospects for the next season are bright since reserve material was strong and showed much improvement during the season. I F '- !t1dnuu11-
