When basketball practice opened for the '42-'43 season the Peacocks had'three members of the year before' returning: Doyle Bones, V. Stevenson, and W. Lundsgaarda Dean Campbell and Paul Cantine filled the two gaps left by graduation. After three weeks of practice, the open- ing game was played seemed that the boy 57 points, while they held the opposition son set the individual scoring record for with 26 markers. ' For the next f the strong Grand Me this game it hitting for to 7, Steven a single game against Cushing. In' s could not be stopped, to go against row: one to heartbreaker ew games luck seemed the boys and they dropped three games in a adow team, an overtime to I. C. of Cherokee, and' a tough battle to Larrabee. However, after this slump, the boys came back fighting and took the next three games in a rowz First the Wash- ta Bulldogs were handed a good pasting, then the home team clicked at Galva and handed them a good trimming. After the Christmas holidays, they journeyed to'Cherokee and easily downed the Cherokee reserves. Then, as the new semester opened, a close game was dropped to Cleg- horn in the last few minutes of play. The Correction- ville boys also managed to eke out a victory aftertrail- ing the Peacocks for the entire game. This was the last game for Lundsgaard, who moved to Nebraska, and his loss was felt during the remainder of the season. V, Perry, who had performed well in reserve roles, stepped in to fill the gap and performed nicely. After losing these two games, tho boys came back again and beat Meriden on the home floor. Then, after a two weeks lay-off due to schedule cancellations, the boys came out to fight Grand Meadow to a standst margin. Once again fate, and they lost ament after playing ta and Holstein had fought back in what ill, only to lose by a three point tough luck seemed to be the Peacock to Grand Meadow in the County Tourn, a blazing first half. In turn,Wash- the locals' number. Again the boys seemed to be an up-and-down season, and thoroughly trounced the Aurelia quintet, playing m first half that has probably never been equalled by a Quimby team. They cooled off against Immaculate Concep- tion at Cherokee though, and dropped.another game. The Peacocks'opened the sectional tourney against Meriden at Kingsley, and took the scoring honors in an overtime thriller, due to Doyle Sones' basket in the last five Y J , , ,ni lq nu '

The next night, however, the Uashta quintet again had the home team's number, and the Peacocks finished the season by dropping the'game to the team that went on to win the sectional title. ' Even though the team won 7 and lost ll contests, the season was by no means a failure. Many bright spots appeared during the season--one of the greatest being the sportsmanship of the boys from the first to last, whether winning or losing. Many complimented were re- ceived during the season on the fine behavior of the boys, both on and off the floor. Other bright spots were the outstanding rebounding ability of Sones, and his developing into an offensive man, as well as an out- standing defensive playerg the speed of the front court attack of Stevenson and Campbell, who at times could not be held down with their fast breakingg and the fighting defensive play of Perry, Lundsgaard and Cantine in the back court. Notable standouts of particular games were the outstanding speed and scoring punch against Cushing, the grim determination to take the Uashta giants, the flawless passing attack against Galva, and the power displayed against Aurelia. Probably the most exciting incident was the overtime victory against Meriden in the sectional tournament. ' ' ' The second team, composed of Rollinsg Griffin, B. Perry, Pinkerton, Furgason, Bennett, Day, and Jenness complied the best record a Quimby second team has had for some time by winning 6 and losing only 4 games. All of these boys except one were underclassmen, and should serve as a good nucleus for future teams. They also carried the same high plane of sportsmanship as V the first stringers, and never lacked the desire and scrap to play. ' All in all, it wasn't a bad season, and with a few breaks going the other way, the season percentage would have looked much more impressive for both teams. . ., .. . . ., .. zhruriiaturli-nr Peddler--HI have a fine assortment of coarse yarns in various shades. would you folks be interested?U Man of the house--HSure, tell me a few.U itibikiiitifitit' A man is like a postage stamp.
