' 'ff i INV: Z ,I 'ffl' ull 1. X 4- H ll Dlvvxljv VN exe 'V If 'HldQX, 1 ga W Vfdi -as ,J Aww QV' seat aim -1-J Q V a s THIRD HDD FOURTH . On a warm August day the sound of our hurrying feet and laughing voices echoed through the halls as we eagerly came into our room to be--the third and fourth grades of 1942, With the coming of fall we learned many things about Indians. We'made a table exhibit of their homesg tepees, and adobes, things that they madeg moccasins, woven baskets, beaded clothing, and pottery. The boys carved out canoes and made bows and arrows for our ex- hibit. Our Halloween party was so exciting! There were smiling jack-o-lanterns grinning at us from every dark corner as we hunted for apples, dressed in our costumes and masks. U We never shall forget the Christmas season. Our hands were busy long before the holidays burning' origi- nal designs into plywood with'an electric needlea These were our gifts to our parents. Our brightly, decorated tree, and the jolly Santa Clauses smiling at us from our walls inspired us to write poems about this happiest of all seasons. For our part in the Christmas program we dramatized for our audience what we thought our soldiers would be thinking of as they sat HDreaming of a White Christmas. After our vacation we came back to school to beEIn the study of American History in the fourth grade. Hisf tory is the story of so many important people so we de- cided to take the most important of them and put the story of their life in our own words. During the month of February many pages were added to our books about such famous men as Washington, Lincoln, and Edison. We have lost several' from our group since that first dayg Joe Lundsgaard, Petty Jo and Freddy Conley, and Helen and Dick Frank, A happy dark-eyed girl, Faith Perrett came to fill one of those vacant seats in our third grade. We demonstrated at the Music p'ogram that we are truly Uncle Sams Hel ers, by showing the many people who are helping our dcouniryd to win the war--the soldier, the sailor, the marine, the pilot, the doctors and nurses, the little boy who gathers scraps, the children who so faithfully buy defense stamps with their change and all the'others who are trying so hard to keep our flag fly- ing. - , Lum
