The results of the contestants' very' tedious work were indeed surprising and beautiful. even to the most skeptical observer. XVorthy of special mention were the con- tributions of Raymond Komorski and YYillard slabusch in oils. XValter Xlcxeeley and George ,lohnson in pencil. Curtis Kiesling in pastels, and Carl llerschel in terra-cotta. Linder the guidance of Father ,l. .-Xustin Gran and the expert advice of the guest lecturers. Fathers Christ. llorrison and Niemeyer. all thirty mem- bers of this organization have improved their work and are well on the path to professional art. 'lihe seniors elected to the presidency and vice-presidency were 'lihomas Healy and blames Xlclieown. YValter Xlcxeeley X!'2is elected Secretary and .lohn Finnegan. ilireasurer. A ..,.4-,-..- 5. SN! 3. if .V .4 'llhis past year marks the fifth anniversary of the Chess Cluliis founding. Officers tor the past year haye been headed by' 'llhomas Fahey. Senior. as President: his fellow-officers are Redmond Lyons as Vice-President, and lfugene liallyveber as Secretary. During the past years the number of members has usually been quite high and the year of lo-lg was no exception. The younger chess enthusiasts, especially, have improved their skill in the game under the expert tutelage of -lames YVilmes, Antony Yader, and Charles Fogarty. The Check and Gambit Club yields to no other Quigley organization in popularity and variation of program. 65

The library. now contain- ing more than -Hlllll yolunies. tripleil its mnnber uf books. while Xlonsignor lfoley was rector. A inaggazine section was installed aml a rental library, of which Father lienesli is in cliarge, containing the newest books, fiction and non-fiction, was added. ln the past few years, a very complete section on lrish History was established. aml a wholly inadequate filing systein was modernized with the jk? Oligfafy aid of material from the Library of Congress. The industrious head librarian. now finishing his third year in charge. is Robert Reicher, assisted by two other seniors, James Klurphy and James XVilnies. Juniors on the staff are Donald Kulleck and George Dyer. Three new librarians joined the staff in their sophomore year. John Kauzlarich. Robert Trisco, and Xxvilllillfl Shipley. Rental librarians are Frank Siinlik, in charge. Joseph Lynch. joseph LeYoy, and Robert Carey. It was during Xlonsiggnor Foley's years as rector that the library became the center of student intellectual activity which it is today.

wlhllnlng if Swimming holds a prominent place in our seminary course. The modern pool with its aquatic facilities affords a source of fun, competition and instruction. There is a compulsory swimming pe- riod for each class once a week at noon time, when the clear pool water rolls and splashes with the diving and swimming
