We realize that many mistakes occurred in our production: mis spellings, out of focus shots and fad- ed grad photos (but we tried). We hope the odd shot will bring a smile to your face thirty years from now when you are a lawyer, a politician (yuck). a bagman for the mafia or plain bored and middle-aged. As has been the tradition in the past, captions have been used for one reason or another. We are sorry if any offend, (no were not “really” sorry) but laugh, what the hell. We did, but we were intoxicated at the time. Congratulations to the grads and best of luck to the new editors of Res Gestae. Keep the spirit for volume four. The Editors

RES GESTAE 1985 86 Volume Three Faculty of Law Queen’s University Kingston, Ontario

DEAN’S MESSAGE On behalf of my faculty and staff colleagues and myself I would like to extend congratulations to the members of Law ‘86 on the successful conclusion of their studies in our Faculty. You have been a class of considerable academic and other achievement and you have also been congenial colleagues. While we naturally feel some regret in seeing you leave, I am confident that in future years we will continue to be proud to be able to claim you as graduates of our Faculty. Denis N. Magnusson Dean of Law PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE This past year has been one of mass participation by all law students. Everyone found their individual niche, many found more than one. and contributed torwards the betterment of the many events which were held. Obviously the Law Games were the premiere event of this past year, but there were also smaller happenings such as the Jessup Moot Competition. C.A.L.S. Conference, Health Law Symposium. Law journal Editors Conference and the Stones of Law Conference, all of which contributed to the name and reputation of Queen's Law School across the country. Our Bcws and Wic teams once again showed that law students can do more than study. The Law Revue showed that we can act and sing. POITS and parties showed that we can dance and drink while the formal and grad banquet showed that we can do both with style. Spirit was shown in winning the Homecoming Float contest and in selling cookbooks, weiners. nigger and golf shins and those infamous law steins. We formed numerous sports pools, had colouring contests in the library- and sent balloon a grams to our friends and professors. On a more serious note, we prohibited smoking in certain parts of the law school, secured an entrenched right of review for our papers and exams and obtained student representation on the newly formed Academic Standing Committee. We reviewed the first and second year cuniculums. the mooting process, the library policies and we continued the slow process of integrating computers into our legal studies. Our commitment to the community through Legal Aid was at an all time high, as were our other charitable contributions to Camp Outlook and Big Brothers. For Law '86 this is the culmination of three years of legal studies and extra curricular fun. We will soon face new challenges in either articling or continuing our studies. In the ftiture we may end up teaching, in practice, in business, in politics or perhaps even on the bench. If we pursue our tuiure plans with the same enthusiasm and commitment we have shown over the past three years, we are sure to accomplish what we set out to do. I have had three fantastic years at Queen's and I would like to thank all of those who have made the time here at Queen's law Softool so memorable. It's been great! |ohn Saunders L.S.S. President
