DR. AAV. JOLLIFFE Honorary President of A.M.S. How fortunate it is to belong to Queen’s '67 — surely a famous year! Attachment to any particular year. Faculty, or discipline soon becomes dominated by loyalty to Queen’s, but the class of ’67 will maintain its identity more strongly than most. None of your many prede- cessors witnessed more changes in campus and classroom — or demonstrated deeper involve- ment and less conformity. And few can have surpassed your moments of excitement and fun, as the pictures in Tricolor '67 testify. Your highest achievements arc less easily measured or depicted. The word ALUMNUS, I am told, properly signifies ’nursling’ — one who is still receiving sustenance, not handing it out. The derivation might seem quite inappropriate for the '67 graduate who anticipates giving counsel and support to ALMA MATER, and it may be that the intent of the word has changed down the centuries. Perhaps your conclusions on this pedantic matter should be waived until you leaf through Tricolor ’67 some years hence. At that time you may find that your experience supports the original meaning: that the brief years at Queen’s — the sparks that were struck, the fires that were kindled, the friendships that were forged — were the beginnings of a lifelong feast. I hope so and wish you well. Dr. Jolliffc 24
