We started our year off with a bang. The freshman skit for Parents Weekend Freshmen in General was one of the best ever presented by a freshman class Queens suddenly knew that the class of 1984 had arrived Throughout the year, we participated ln and learned to love the traditions at Queens Such new experiences as Christmas Formal, Boars' Head Dinner, Mom's Weekend, Dad's Weekend, and May Day set Queens apart from the other schools we knew Though we were new at the game, we played along just like the others As the end of the year approaches and sum- mertime calls, we re ready to pack away the books and head for home. Though we regret that our first year has ended, we have a wonder- ful thing to look forward to next year - We ll be sophomores! ll fl ll Q . u n u . 1 0 a 0 I no o Q an o u s 1 o 1 nu u u Q an a an a n s ' s s n a 0 o o n n u n a I a I ll I FRESHME C ASS U fl- PP ' 'Z as 1 -- fr .ee . ,A -B. ff wg -.gg -,gp , V Y ,- W, .. --Awziwvyfhy -4 I' . 3 9' ,L -A, L,'Ci11gZq32iq:,f , 1 41' - -fl.. - . -1. aw, - 4,5 ..- 11 ,- Q? it ff 1 ':f.+..!. wtf- 1 f-. . -, ?1f'.ff'r1 I sf--3'1wff .L. 4, -' 1-if .- 4- if' ': y1, .:.a1. The Cultural Events Committee certainly did have its act together during the 1980-81 year bring- ing us many special and enjoyable events. Besides sponsoring guests and speakers for Wednesday night dinners, the group sponsored many films for Queens students including Psycho, And justice For All, and Citizen Kane. Their major project for the fall was an exciting fashion show featuring stu- dent models with fashions by Foxglove and hair and makeup by Audrey Morris. During second semester, the committee spon- sored a workshop by hypnotist, Tom Deluca, who helped students with problems from grades to weight-loss. In March, Irish folk singer joe Heany headed a workshop on Gaelic poetry. Also in the Spring, a Queens favorite, Cone With the Wind, was shown and Dr. Charles Hadley gave a memorable lecture on the film. The Cultural Events Committee really stayed busy keeping Queens busy. 16-1 3 . 1 F PH 1 525' 5. A Kim Long's own brand of Western! .till GOES WESTERN! This was a very special year for Alpha Delta Pi. On February 28, the ADIIs celebrated their fiftieth anniversary at Queens with their usual spirit and enthusiasm. Alpha Delta Pi had a fun and active year with parties, projects and mixers. Es- pecially memorable was the Western mixer held in November. The event was complete with a mechanical bull, a floor strewn with hay, and cowboy hats and boots. The gala occasion was one of many good times had during the course of the year. 4 v ADIIs Dana Kirby, Allison Austin, Becky Nam, Amanda Palmer, and Carol Holbrook decide that they like being cowgirls. As of 1980 Freshmen are required to take the Women's leadership program as well as a second term. The other required term may be met by an internship, by participating in Operation Enterprise, by travelling, by taking a class or by taking the second part of Leadership Training, this year sponsored by American Management Association. In- ternships this year included those in which students worked at the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, working as teacher aides, newspaper staff jobs and television stations like WFBC in Greenville, South Carolina. Operation Enterprise offered students in business a different perspective on manage- ment. Three trips were sponsored by Queens for lanuary term. One to New York which con- centrated on Theater, one to Africa, and one which gave students a chance to visit Italy, Germany and Austria. january Term is one element that sets Queens apart from other schools. lanuary term offers those who apply themselves the chance to learn in a slightly different manner. ily Wall Street Womenl' 'I' 3.5 ..,. Italy, Germany and Austria were the three countries which the group toured. In Italy, Rome, Florence and Venice were visited. The Coliseum and the Pantheon in Rome - the canals and museums in Venice The city built on the water and in Florence, Michelangelo's David . The same museum which houses the David was visited by Nureyeu while the Queens group was there. Some managed to get his autograph. In any event Italy was certainly a Once-in-a-lifetime experience. In Austria many of the sites filmed in the film, The Sound of Music were toured. Some chose to visit Salzburg's Toy Museum which proved to be quite entertaining. The Queens group was in Germany while plans were being finalized for the release of the hostages in Iran. The group tried to keep up with the news in the German newspapers. The Coun- tries indeed offered each student experiences one may hope for once-in-a-lifetime.
