In college, ore than ever before, a student is expected to do his 935-work. Failure to do so, or to indicate that he has done so, is termed plagiarism-- whether it is the result of deliberate dishonesty or carelessness. Plagiarism consists in: a. taking without acknowledgment a passage of any length whatsoever, or a substantial theme or idea, from the writing of another persong b. rewriting a source by the Npatchwork-quiltn method of omitting words here or there, changing the order of words or sentences, changing key words by the mere use of synonyms, or other excuses for genuine.paraphrasingg c. taking without acknowledgment the substance of another person's ideas, even when such ideas are rephrasedg d. failing to mark quoted material in the proper and approved style--CD0 not Hforgetn to use quotation marks! e. accepting outside help in writing of any paper. Departments are empowered to penalize plagiarism by a grade of F for the course and to report the offense to the Dean of Students so that the penalty assessed may be recorded in the student's permanent record.
