warnings of the tremendous growth to come were the gray and white temporary buildings, the L buildings and K buildings. While they did seem to be made of card- board and matchwood, while they did sway and creak in the eternal gales of Queens, cmd while they were consistently and obtusely over-heated from spring to winter, yet they were the first imperfect symbols of the spirit of growth. Another indication of the long-range aims of Queens Col- lege was the small rectangular drawing outside of the President's office showing a campus filled with large white buildings, widely spaced and massive in proportion. A third invisible indication was the Ten-Point plan for the long range expansion of Queens College, the maturing of which we are experiencing right now. When we came, however, there was iust the quadrangle, the two more isolated buildings F and G, the temporary buildings K and L, the Home Economics building, the student building, the bookstore, the wind and the fog.

was easy to imagine that we were miles from anywhere. The open west end of the quadran gle, when blocked by the fog, seemed to sug gest the edge of the world, our world. The radar tower seemed the last tangible boundary to our red and brown isolation, but of course we knew that past the radar tower were theNew- town plowed fields, theicemetery, the old Worlds Fair grounds, and eventually Manhattan, which we .could see when the mists blew away. r
