PRESENTS . 'THE REGINA X 1958 Most Reverend Walt Keuenberg, D. D

Page 9 text:

o Lift Curse ve-S Up . . . As Christians we are aware that a woman was the driving force behind two of the major events in the historical development of mankind-the Fall of Adam and the Nativity of Christ. This has been the role of women throughout the pages of history -the instrument of man's fall or the instrument of man's restoration in the moral order. And so too, must this be our role as CATHOLIC LEADERS in the new DIOCESE OF ROCKVILLE CENTRE. We, as Catholic Graduates, must move into a man's world of nuclear energy, techniques and mechanical progress and there become a driving force for good -sanctifying our souls and the souls of mankind about us. Mindful of the potent words of Pope Pius XII - Your destiny is at stake , we realize fully that ours is a noble destiny, that of becoming leaders in all phases of Catholic life in a pioneer Diocese of Holy Mother Church. A ninety percent increase in population in Suffolk County in the past seven years and statistical proof that Nassau County is the fast- est growing county in the United States since the Second World War made it mandatory for His Holiness, Pope Pius XII to establish our new Diocese of Rockville Centre. In doing so, our Holy Father has presented the youth of the diocese a challenge- a challenge to be the bearers of TRUTH to a post- war, chaotic world, seeking its security in ballistic missiles and hydrogen bombs. Through the pages of our 1958 THE REGINA we present the phases of Christian living in which Catholic leadership is most needed-the Spiritual . . . Educational . . . Cultural . . . and Social. Our embryonic Diocese, with a population of 1,346,414 of whom 482,716 are Catholic most certainly needs stalwart, God-fearing leaders. We can not expect our Diocesan clergy of three hundred fifty-four priests to bear the responsibility of advancing the Rockville Centre Diocese to a top ranking diocese . . . top ranking in spirituality and moral leadership. We, the Graduates of 1958 offer our fealty to our Esteemed Bishop as his future leaders in the words of the Sovereign Pontiff, Lay apostles will there- fore always form an elite, not because they stand apart from the others but, quite the contrary, be- cause they are capable of attracting and influencing others . .
