The program opened with the Presentation of the Colors, the Salute to the Flag, and the National An- them. John Fisher, in the absence of the class Presi- dent, David Newton, gave the welcoming address. Next came the Song of Welcome followed by the Pantomime Miss Iva Neway's School. Miss Neway, Joan Verrier, gave us a few different ideas on school teachers while her students Barbara Bernadino, Dolores Carey, Frank Nash, Edward Venditti and Charles De- Luca, demonstrated the correct way in which lessons should be done. This amusing pantomime, narrated by Rosemary Lamprecht, held the audience from beginning to end. Czlfefcame fa fgflesimen 1 Q 2 Between the.pantomime and the One-Act Play the senior girls impersonated Indian Squaws and sang A Uni much to everyoneis delight. Then came the play Thanks Awfully. It was the story of a sister of a famous painter who forces him by pleading, shouting, and tears to attend her bridge club meeting to meet the girls. Dick, the brother, played by David Burke, in order to make it more interesting, decides to make a bet with his sister Dot fMary Jane Pierzl. The bet was that he is to say only Thanks Awfully all evening. The predicaments this bet got him into all night was the plot of the play. The audience by their applause indicated that the skit was well enjoyed. Peanuts and popcorn were distributed to the spectators by the vendors. The show opened with the all-time favorite song of the circus Come to the Circus. Then the Ringmaster, John 0,Neil, welcomed all to the show and intro- duced the acts in a humorous way. Clowns lead by Lorranie Matthews, an acrobat, Music Makers, and Sh! Boom by the Roustabouts were all seen in the first ring during the show. Kiddie Kapers, Circus Menageries, the Circus Band, Trained Seals, and the Big Top Trio all were seen as well as heard in the outer rings. The side show with colorful costumes included every type. There were: the Bearded Lady, Atlas McFadden lthe world's strongest man, and 'trainerl dancing gypsies who came from North Arlington, Belleville and Harrison and Mr. and Mrs. Thin Man. In the main ring, were a tight rope walker without a t' ht ' ' lg rope, men on the flying trapeze without the trapeze and Joey, the Midget. Q A 1.4ua-...-, , f the ast season in the space auoueu To write a review or summary o p won... ..- ,ww Y ' l t ess unfair to the game and to the players because of its mcomp e en . To write of the many qualities derived from this fine game, both of physical and mental attributes or the process of blending many individuals to function as one, would be repetitious and scanty in its entirety. Too seldom do we think of our laurels and play on the gridiron and I feel these cherished values should be more fully expressed. This will be a hook of lifelong remembrances and I can best join you in remembering our association by recalling to mind some ofthe events that occurred throughout the season. The individual contributions will bear their own fruit throughout your lives and probably without your awarenessg but when you glance back into your high school days to reminisce, let not the unforgettables of your pigskin play be lost. To insure the enriching of these values I will cite some very stirring instances that are clear tome now . . . Do you remember . . . ED KIERNAN . . . how you cracked through the line at the Immaculate game and found your face in the kicker's foot, and then seconds later across the goal line for the winning touchdown? DAVE NEWTON . . . how you watched the ball come down end over end for you to receive for just a routine runback, and how the blockers formed and the opponents disappeared until you found yourself 85 yards downfield for a score? PAT MEAD . . . whatever possessed you to return to action, after a serious injury and still under doctor's care, to kick two crucial extra points to insure victory? LOU MORRELL . . . how you excelled in leading the team to a gallant per- formance against a strong St. Peter's eleven? I could go on with many more illustrations about many more fine players, but it is not always the feats of grandeur which bring out the fondest memories. It may be ' h t tor is unaware but planted that unspectacular block or tackle, of which t e spec a , ' f h individual. James Schaeffer should be well acquainted with firmly in the heart o t e this sort of play along with boys like Charles Kiel, Bob Platt, and John McAvenue. In conclusion, Ixhope these illustrations will set off a chain reaction that may bring a chuckle to your heart, or a tear to your eye, and by all means a bit of happi- ness. I am confident that some of the many fine values of the game have become a physical or mental part of you as a result of your play at Queen of Peace. As I have often reminded you on the playing field, it is more important to practice good sports- manship than to win or lose. This you all accomplished graciously, and I hope you will carry this lession with you as you leave here, and above all, I hope you had fun playing football. Many thanks to you, our athletic director, Reverend Monsignor Peter B. O'Con- nor, our players, the boosters, the faculty, our inspiring cheerleaders, and those who came out and watched our games, for their fine cooperation, support, and spiritual guidance. It has been well said that he who conquers himself is greater than those who win even just wars. Courage of fortitude is a virtue which may even penetrate mens inner consciousness and there recognize the incipient temptation and so to speak to defeat it before it can damage the image of God in which man has been created. To pin the medal of heroism on one who has done a noble, courageous act ace :ording to the standards of the world and then to pass ox ti' :z forgetfulness those who fought the good fight and who have kept the Faith amid the temptations of this world would be unreasonable. To fail to appreciate the heroic sanctity of those who have been Canonized would be to have a blind spot on the greatest courage that we mere humans have ever achieved. This cour- age or fortitude adorns those who have fought successfully the world, the Hesh and the devil. fielerfimz from addrefr mi Fm'trl11zz'e .j Sunhay Zinening, 'june inthe 28, 1954 grlgnnl Aubifnriuxu 6 ai ziglgf n'rlurk JZ Y e Music, undef the gaping? r direction of Mr' ot td lends enchamfnen their his msht' 'ig galzldffdfl F ,1 - .'f3rL1grnxuxuc .
