I HAVE been asked to contribute a message for the Annual, devoted this year to the theme of Athle- tics. It would be hard to think of anything nearer or dearer to the hearts of youth than athletics, particularly competitive sports. As this is being written we are opening our season of spring sports following a city tournament playoff in basketball in which, according to the sport writers, the Queen Anne-Broadway game stole the show and was one of the fanciest games of basketball bombarding of the season. This followed a football championship, which is the most coveted prize of all for youth. 'llow fine a thing that our youth has these opportunities for recreation and pleasure. With the success of the recent bond issue. we look forward to a fine new football stadium at Civic Field so well suited to serve the sport convenience of the schools and public. We look forward, also, to a new gymnasium with ample seating capacity for the school community to enjoy watching a basketball game. We also look forward to more recreational room near the building. Youth is coming into its own. UTTO li. LU'l1llE'll, Principal. 10

To PATTERN a message along the lines of the athletic theme of this yearbook leads me to laud the morale building values and the learning of teamwork involved in our athletics. The whole school profits in many ways from the program. High School youth in particular gain from the wholesome outlet provided for their abundant physical and emotional energy. The thoughts and feelings of many of us are aptly expressed by the poet, llenry Van Dyke. But let not wisdom, scorn The hours of pleasure in the playing-lielfl: There also strength is born, And every manly game a virtue yieldsf, GEORGE S. FARMER, Vice-Principal. ll
