OFFICE FORCE-Down in the engine room where the most careful and exacting work must be done, the office force carried out their part in our school year. Not an easy job is the one the main office staff, under Miss Marie Hawkins, performs. Here is where files of all the students must be kept up, where statistics are worked out, and business is done. During the day several hard- working switch-board operators take care of the communication system, But this is not the only room where school business is carried on, In charge of roll call and reprimanding those who are A.W.O.L. is Miss Florence Pendergrast in l l l. The two study hall teachers, Miss Margaret Odell and Mrs Velma Hutchinson also have numerous students and problems to contend with in order to keep the ship moving. There are no wages here, you serve as a matter of loyalty to the school and joy in the service. The calendar year closing in March, when this is written, marks the twelve months most glorious in achievement in Queen Anne's history-a track and tennis championship, second in baseball, the honor of participating in the Charity Football Playoff, and finally on March Sth a triple championship in basketball. Along with these athletic achievements the Queen Anne stu- dents have made an enviable record in the Op- eretta, the School Play, and the Kapers, and in an oratorical championship, In all this you graduates have had your full share. Wee-Pn'ncipal3' Message T0 THE CLASS OF NINETEEN-FORTY HAT in i936 looked like four long years of high school life ahead, to many of you now seems all too brief. You are happy in the spirit of adventure and achievement. Life beckons. But we cannot forget that you are now leaving school to enter a war-torn world, where the resources of future generations as well as those of the present are being wiped out, and the very existence of civilization threatened. America can help end war, but not by going to war, which only scatters seed. America's destiny is to show the world a better way by practical demonstration of the superiority of our form of government and its ideals to main- tain peace, progress, and prosperity. Queen Anne is proud to have had a part in equipping the Class of l94O for its share in that great task and we shall watch your future progress with the keenest of interest. E. H. Uhl, junior adviser, Julius Hoverson, sophomore counselor, Kenneth Campbell, sophomore adviser, Charles Foster, freshman counselor, W. O. Baker, freshman ad- viser, Miss Thelma Chisholm, Girls' club adviser and Felix Moore, Boys' club adviser. Miss Chisholm and Mr, Moore gave assist- ance to everyone and ably directed the many and varied activities of the Girls' club and Boys' club, ln our social activities and class elections we could not have succeeded without the able guidance of the class advisers. And without the helpful advice of our coun- selors, who told us what subjects to take and assisted us in plotting our course after gradua- tion, we would have been left stranded on the reefs many times.
