.xgclmiffing LZBML One of the most complicated departments at Queen's is the admitting ofiice. The person in charge almost has to be a fortune teller, math- ematician, and magician in order to provide beds for patients at a moment's notice. There is also a separate admitting desk in the OB. wing. A great deal of bookkeeping is done in Admitting and many records must be kept. After observing the desk routine, one realizes that in this department a big job is well done. Which is the busiest place in the hospital from 7:00 oiclock in the morning itil, well- 7:00 oiclock the next morning? Yes, it's 'gCentral,,, as we call it. There, under the supervision of Sadye Squires, R.N., all the supplies used in the hospital, ranging from intravenouses to sterile bowls, are requisi- tioned to the floor nurses. The student receives four weeks of invaluable training in this department, with the opportunity of learning many things about sterile technique, wrapping, and oxygen therapy. Wexcaf SIA... Serving on a medical floor is one of the greatest challenges to the student nurse. It is here that patients rely solely upon medicinal therapy and efficient nursing care. When a stu- dent finishes this service, she has gained a thorough, practical knowledge of bedside nursing. She lays a firm foundation for the patience, kindness, and sympathetic under- standing which is so essential.
