His many duties involve such areas as per- sonnel, finance, public relations, and public services. He has always enjoyed the wide variety of work as his life-time interest has been business. Today the opportunity for stu- N,-Q ...nm Q, 1, . H- ,..n:ms',4 ,', ', ,'-, au- M '- ....,f h , , A dent involvement within the school system has opened up. Mr. Bryant especially enjoys a small school system like our because he is able to know what is going on from eVeryone's point of view. I m f.,E1,., We 19 36 Q A aawnmmmpshh' . 4 O .. .Q f f Concessions Every Saturday morning, September through November, the QI-IS Seniors sold coffee and dough- nuts at the Youth League football games. Some always had trouble getting up early enough to make it by 7:00, but all worked diligently to make money for the Senior Trip. Some memorable moments were: Cindy's attack on a referee with the mus- tard bottle, jon Zander continously hovering over the cash box, and Ernie's undeclared War on bum- ble bees. Another Senior class fund-raising project Was the Senior Bazaar, held on November 16 Sz 17. A lot of hard Work and long hours Went into the items sold, and it seemed to pay off. The Bazaar was a success. The Workshops took place in the school cafeteria at night under the direction of several much-appreciated, self-sacrificing parents. Voice ofthe Students SCA OFFICERS: Treasurer Mary Hogan, Vice-President Cindy Limbach, President Mark Willis, Parlemantarian Liz Scott, Sec- retary Teresa Hatmaker. Sponsoring drives, dances, contests, and spirit-raising constitutional and legis- lative action made the SCA emerge as an outstanding instrument through which students could voice their opinions. The Student Council debated any number of issues on every Wednesdayjafternoon in room 214. The winter of '74 found members revising the hair-length proposal and compiling a list of new and traditional projects. The drafted plans for the Spring Carnival, the Bat tle of the Sexes, and the People Auction reveled the interests of the student body. The project with the most far-reaching effect was the detailed planning of the Spring Carnival. Sponsored by the SCA but handled through organizations and members of the community, this project uncovered unity, individual dedication and a new awareness of the Student Council. In addition to sponsoring annual projects and establishing new traditions such as the Parade prior to the Homecoming game, the SCA also backed welfare projects like rais- ing money for the Choctaw Indians and collecting canned goods for needy families. i, ,, fe j FRONT: Noel DePalma, Frank Prater, Eric Furstenberg, Charlie Reynolds, Cathy Dickerson, Kelli Walker, Terri Hartman, Sharon Buchanan, Laura Vanl-Iorne. Even with the hours of strenous practice and sure-fire plays the teams were neck to neck throughout the entire game. As constant crys of encour- agement and disappointment bellow- ed out from the team members, the crowd sat apathetically along the sidelines. Suddenly Terri Hatmaker scored a touchdown for the Seniors. At that moment the team spirit hit a new high, and we believed we had the game in our pockets. Then the Juniors Went charging ahead with a 70-year touchdown by Sharon Boddy. The crowd, suddenly awak- ened by these new developments, rushed to the sidelines to cheer their chosen teams to victory. Al- though both teams fought vigorously for additional points, we were de- feated by the clock. The next day we could see the results of the game as the members cautiously limped from class to class. The following is an interview with five members of the 1974 football team: Steve Chace, Dwight Ellis, Chris and Danny Herman, and Scott Nolf. What motivated you to out this year? Dwight: lt's fun and a good time. Danny: The fun of winning. Scott: You just look forward to the games. Steve: The challenge. What about a personal goal? Steve: It's not as much personal as it is is the team . . . a team goal. Like this year, to be undefeated. Dwight: But if a guy is real close to setting a record, the whole team will pitch in to help him. What is the general feeling among all the players? All: You can't explain it. Danny: Everybody is really close. 136 I know a lot of people Wonder what goes on at half-time in the locker room. Dwight: At half-time you're all tired from the first half. Coach lets us go in and get a drink and rest until about the last four minutes. Then he comes down and goes over plays We messed up or something. Do you think Coach Leonard is as hard on you as you are on yourselves? All: No. How do you feel When one of your team- mates is really critical about something you did? Steve: We weren't really that critical. It was usually constructive if any- body did it. Dwight: Coach said at the beginning of the year that if there's any critic- izing to be done, he'd do it. 15 Did it help you when you criticized each other? Danny: It's better. lf you have a grown- up criticizing you, you say that they don't know what they're talking about because they're not in there doing it. But when you have someone that's in there with you, they can help you out. You tend to listen to them a little bit more. When you watch films of the game, what does it feel like to see yourself in action? Chris: lt doesn't seem like it's you. lt doesn't look like you. Dwight: You can't believe you made those dumb mistakes. Then when you see something you did real good, you say Coach, turn that back. Scott: The films really help you out a lot. Do you guys get nervous before the games? All: Yea. Danny: It depends on what team you're playing. Who was your hardest opponent? Scott: Brentsville. Chris, Steve: Bullis. Chris: With Bullis, we couldn't move on them at all. But with Brentsville, we could move. We just couldn't score. 138 Mn 'llil W! H5 i '1 - 0, .. .,. Danny: We were really ready to play that day. Chris: You think more about winning a Homecoming game than you do any regular game. What was it like in the locker room after the last game? Danny: When you went to throw someone in the shower, you couldn't get out yourself. It was mobbed. Dwight: The Coach came in, and we gave him a bottle of champagne. Danny: And we didn't even get any. Dwight: Coach couldn't even talk after that game. He just sat there with his hands in his lap and a big grin on his face. ' ln your opinion, what is the best thing about football?
